Super PAC to launch organization to identify and respond to foreign meddling in US elections

A few years ago, the left-leaning British newspaper, The Guardian, launched a campaign including writing letters in an attempt to influence the US Presidential election. The effort was focused on a county in Ohio. As word got out, the effort was a dismal failure and, in fact, backfired. Americans react negatively to such meddling and identifying such tactics would be an important political weapon.

The new organization will consist of political analysts, private investigators, and retired law enforcement personnel, including retired FBI agents. Included will also be attorneys and technical IT experts to provide a technical and legal effort that might be needed to determine the sources of any such tactics. The organization will also retain appropriate investigative and law enforcement personnel in other countries to facilitate investigations.

The effect of such investigations could lead to lawsuits, cooperation with law enforcement if election laws are violated, and publicly identifying responsible individuals or organizations. The motto is “Don’t try it, but if you do, we will come after you.”

Word is they will not wait until the election gets underway full steam and will do some preliminary work to get a handle on the perspective agitators. They referred to the program as Preemptive Profile Analysis.

The way it seems to be shaping up is if people have noticed such behavior in the past or a propensity for future behavior, those bad actors should be made known to the organization, which will via technical and legal efforts be identified and put into a database.

I can think of at least one person who would be a target.

I can think of a couple off-hand. Interesting with all the kinds of things that go on, anyone should assume if they engage in such behavior, they will be found out and prosecuted.

Would this "Super PAC" happen to comprise just one blustering right-wing Hermosa Beach windbag (and his "Floridian" sidekick), by any chance?

Come on, Socal. I'm sure RJers are curious to know more about this remarkable "Super PAC", that will conjure up prosecutions where there is no crime and lawsuits where there is nothing actionable.

At least tell us this super PAC's name: Hermosa Hotair? Headless Bravado? Desperate Shot?

Or perhaps I've missed news of the recently passed "Meddling Foreigners Act" (commonly known as Socalscare) :

    ________________________________________________________________

    One Hundred Fourteenth Congress

    of the

    United States of America

    AT THE SECOND SESSION

Begun and held at the City of Washington on Monday,
the fourth day of January, two thousand and sixteen

    An Act

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that, on pain of federal prosecution, no person who is not a Citizen of these United States of America shall express any opinion (hereinafter called "meddling") with regard to the politics of the said United States.

I have heard from several foreign friends that the attitude is that the US effects them so much that they want a say in the election.

Its mostly ignorance on their part from a very narrow view of how are government is chosen.

One told a tall tail he was so "wanted" in the US he was offered to become a "count".

My answer is but out and fix your own country. Unless you want to become a citizen and pay taxes of course.

Precisely. Good points. If you look at the problems in several European countries, for example, they've got a pile of crap to fix up in their own countries.

Specifics in OP not recommended to be discussed on open sites at this point.

??? Having raised the topic, now you advise we shouldn't discuss it? Is this a matter of national security?

Well, recommended or not, I thought one of the foreign countries meddling in US elections was Israel. Mostly for the Right Wing side. And I understand there's been meddling by China, which has no history or concept of free, multi-party elections.

Don't worry, Socal, you've been specific enough to give everyone a good laugh at your bizarre hollow threats, yet again (made even more pathetic by your hiding behind your anonymity). Grow up.

From what I understand, any country or individual involved is fair game. Fair to discuss but I've been told specific organizations(s) involved want to act under the radar, but just getting preliminary word out to mobilize.

This is just a rehash of Socal's idle threats before the previous presidential election. Needless to say, the Feds never sent any extradition warrants and no subpoenas were ever issued, as a result of any "foreign meddling" in Socal's lame attempt to use the RJ forums as a Romney/Ryan Campaign recruiting ad. Oh, and the GOP lost.
