NEW YORK -- The Secret Service, FBI and New York Police Department are investigating what sources tell CBS News is a threatening piece of mail sent to Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump.

The mail, sent to Eric Trump at his posh Manhattan residence at 100 Central Park South, also known as Trump Parc East, was opened by his wife Thursday.

A source close to the investigation said the letter had a Massachusetts postmark and warned that if Donald Trump doesn't withdraw from the race for the Republican presidential nomination -- paraphrasing -- harm will come to the kids.

A source familiar with the matter said the envelope contained suspicious white powder that's been sent to a lab for testing. The source said a preliminary field test indicated the substance didn't appear to be hazardous.

    No injuries were reported.

    I hate people.

White powder for one of trumps idiot children? Not surprising at all. Maybe the threat has more to do with collecting a debt for already used white powder?

They don't already have a Mexican to open their mail for them?

Though when Scuzlia died I surprised myself by finding myself laughing at the news of it, this sort of thing is nothing I'd ever encourage but is something I might both have doubts about by known Trump antics (how do I know that this isn't just more drama for the press?) and while not having a sense of justice about it, rather having an eye to the larger picture, even if it were for real, it does kind of line up with the rest of those lives, of killing on safari, of who knows what happens in the casino biz, of the threats this guy has made towards Muslim Americans and whatever else goes on in those types of lives.

If my neighbor received a white powder in the mail, I'd be horrified for them, so I'm not without empathy. But this? Meh.

Someone who kills for pleasure, I'm supposed to feel sorry for?

What's Eric holding in his arms, a leopard who received a mailgram with powder in it?

The Trump campaign probably set up the whole thing to give Trump something new to rant about. Get ready for the latest addition to his imbecilic mic-popping stump speech:

"Do you know what they did? They sent ricin to my son. They sent ricin to my son. (Pulls mic in even closer.) They sent ricin to my son. It's not certain that it was ricin, but we're pretty sure. These people are nasty. Oh yeah, these people are nasty. They'll stop at nothing. But, I tell ya, they won't be doin' that when I'm president. They'll be in jail, cos we're gonna make America great again. I'm tellin' ya - blah blah blah..."

    Cue hollering Trump trash.
