The final year (1981, I was 16) MTV was introduced. "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles was the first song/video MTV played. This format literally killed the radio of which all my songs (from Billboard 100 series), were heard from up until this point. There were many "videos" of these songs from 1978 thru 1981 played on MTV at the time, especially in the beginning. As time went on, many MTV video and their songs became radio hits

It was a very important music transition and history time frame
This was also the "end of Disco" "begin of Glam Rock and New Wave"

Before the official MTV video', this is how most of us got our music/TV of the time, especially, American Bandstand

When we heard songs like these, they were on the radio, it was very rare or not at all, to 'see' these clips on a TV set. It wasn't until MTV a few years later that these kinds of videos appeared

This was the age I was recording on cassette tape from the radio airwaves, icon_razz.gif
