RC Church and Pedophilia

The rc church in my area has made public some of the priests who abused children. The list, however, does not contain all of them. A law firm that represents the victims has asked that the rc church to deliver the whole list, but the church is making excuses as to why they can't. As long as the rc church suppresses sex and considers it controllable and not a need like hunger or thirst, they are going to continue to cause these problems.

The reason pedofiles abuse children has nothing to do with the church suppressing sex. Pedofiles will continue to sexually abuse children even if the church sanctioned premarital sex, homosexual sex, group sex, and orgies.

That's exactly right. The church's suppression of sex doesn't turn people into pedophiles. Pedophiles are attracted to the priesthood because they think the celibate lifestyle will keep them out of trouble and help them "fix" themselves. But, of course, it doesn't work.

In times past, many homosexuals entered the priesthood or became monks for the same reason. Let's hope that's mostly ancient history.

Another reason going into the priesthood and also teaching is access to kids and a position of trust, what a croc of S**T, if any of this stuff comes out, its always those types of people in those positions, there is a purging in the UK with these types going on right now but the church has yet to be investigated, the Vatican still covers this stuff up and is still ruining peoples lives, I can't imagine what it would be like to have that happen to you but I would imagine the violation, manipulation, intimidation etc that the victims go through must be terrible and as I expect drive some to crime, drugs/drink, and premature death through these means or suicide which is terrible, these people are supposed to help guide and look after the young people and not abuse the trust.

If the RC Church had set out to design the perfect environment for child sexual abuse (and for covering it up afterwards), it could hardly have done a better job.

All Roman Catholics, indeed all Christians, must share some responsibility for these crimes. Oops, sorry, that sort of warped logic only applies to Muslims.

I doubt many people go into the priesthood for the purpose of abusing children. It takes years of preparation, it's not an easy life, and the returns would be uncertain at best. Much easier to just become a Scoutmaster, or coach Little League.

But it's no wonder the priesthood attracts sexual deviants. Who in their right mind would choose a life of celibacy?

As Marge Simpson said of her sisters, Patty and Selma:

"Some people choose a life of celibacy; others have celibacy thrust upon them."

The Gospel quotes Jesus as saying pretty much the same thing. However, the Church doesn't impose celibacy on anyone. They choose freely to enter the priesthood.

celibacy in itself creates a cloud of secrecy in the clergy. this fosters some of the pedophilia.

Wait, I thought it was "gay men and their godlessness" that abused children. You mean there are actual followers of Christ as well as Priests themselves who are molesting children?icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif

Sam27 saidAbusive priests shouldn't be in Church.

Correction: Priest who abuse young children should not be in active ministry.

I believe that people who sexually abuse young children should be either physically or chemically castrated.

I agree with you on that, at least they won't have the urge to have sex and then ruin yet another innocent persons life.
They should all go to prison if found guilty as well as castration, that would put the fear of god up them and make them think twice from doing it in the first place.
