Love these videos of planes taking off and landing at Princess Juliana airport in St. Maarten. Only a fence and a narrow road separates the end of the runway from the beach. Have not been there yet, but it's on my list.
Just got back from there, and one day the other guys went out to the airport to watch - pretty spectacular@!
It's been ten years since I was there, and I found it a little distressing how much the island has been "developed:" more jewelry stores, more luxury houses and resorts, and still the same run-down poverty everywhere.
I've been there as well, and the runway is quite short for these jumbo jets, hence the peculiar landings. The only other airport that comes to mind that i've been to with this type of landing/takeoff is the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong.
As mentioned by tazzari, the level of poverty on the island is quite sad.
