This is a great start. I would love the Louisiana state legislature to pass a strict law against discrimination in housing and employment based on sexual orientation.

The Louisiana legislature can't even remove its anti-sodomy and anti-gay rights laws from the books, despite them being declared unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court. Just like many of them believe "The South Shall Rise Again" many believe bigotry shall rise again legally, as well. And actually one is the subset of the other.

So don't expect any favorable sexual orientation legislation coming out of the Louisiana state legislature, on issues like housing and employment.

How right you are! As the lead paragraph in the article recognizes, it took the veto by GA's GOP Governor of similar anti-gay legislation to prompt Edwards to act. And, since the LA legislature was solidly in the hands of the Democrats from 1992 until 2013, why didn't they promote any pro-gay laws? Time for a refill?

Exactly, Art is condemning the GOP for being anti-GLB but he fails to realize that his beloved Democratic Party has also failed to do anything proactive to change the situation for gays and lesbians in these ultra conservative southern states. The donkey dorks controlled both houses of the Louisiana state legislature all those years yet not one piece of pro-GLB legislation ever attempted. Go figure.

A newly elected governor of the Democrat party (as of Jan 2016) would rescind the previous Republican party elected governors executive action, always possible but always worrisome.

In this particular instance though, its for the positive icon_cool.gif
