Average penis size different in studies and real life? How is it possible?

All the studies say average length is 5.1 x 4.6 inches, with some small variance depending on what study you look at. Now I haven't hooked up with many guys in my life. I've probably seen less than 10 other guys' erect penises in real life, and they have pretty much all been more like 6.5/7 inches by 5.5/ 6 inches girth. I've also noticed that when you ask gay guys what they think the average penis size is, they will tell you a figure like the one of the guys in real life. How is this possible?

Do you think I've just coincidentally ended up dating guys with bigger than average penises?
    Are the studies somehow wrong?
Where are all the guys with below average penises, half of all guys?!

Sometimes I think maybe only a small percentage of guys are confident enough to date or hook up at all, which is why there is a difference like this, but that would be so depressing, because it would mean the vast majority of guys are excluded from sex and dating. Do you think a scenario like that could be possible?

    What are your experiences?

Easy, you live in NYC. New Yorkers have bigger dicks.

Hahahaha. Well I've got my small sample size actually from a pretty diverse range of places.

But that's interesting, even if it's a joke. Do you think people with bigger dicks will be more likely to move to certain places?

Doesn't NYC have a lot of Italians?

I have several problems with these claims of dick sizes.

The main one being that I've never heard of anyone having their dick measured by anyone doing an honest (i.e., scientific) study of dick sizes. These numbers tossed about are coming from journalists who are notorious for pulling figures out of their asses; at best they might be quoting someone who doesn't really know much about the topic but loves being quoted.

If the measurements are self reported then there's the problem of an accurate and proper measurement; people have a variety of different ways of measuring the length of their dick. Unless I see a picture with a ruler on top of the dick I pretty much ignore any claims they make.

But back to the joking, see the diagram on page 6 of this thread. If you do a straight average where you add the numbers together and divide by how many you used maybe the range you've seen is "correct."

I think these studies are often reported and re-done for the sole purpose of making the reporter himself feel adequate with his package...

"Look honey, I'm considered 'Average'... no seriously, there was a *study*... read these results..."

I don't think most people can look at a penis (or anything else) and accurately gauge it's dimensions without using a measuring device.

Agreed. Plus they tend to be in proportion to your height; tall guys have longer ones and short guys shorter ones. So if you just see a picture of the guy you may think it's an average size when you can't tell how tall he is.

I once saw a short guy who had a tall guy's sized dick and my eyes bugged out.

Where is my math wrong? I'm pretty sure the average of my past sexual partners is bigger than the average in the studies, and I don't understand why.

I think it often boils down to perception vs. reality.
