Do people consider Scruff to be just another hookup site?

Is it seen as also a legitimate app to make friends and network since you can have a full profile or is it just a glamorized hookup site? I've made platonic friends there. I've also met some hookups /fbuddies there. I also met my boyfriend on there. But maybe I'm being naive?

Pretty much a hook-up site, although maybe with a bit more restraint than Grindr. And they are trying to become more of a travel site with the "Ventures" tab. However, it seems that some people with older phones are stuck with an older version that doesn't have "Ventures."

I've met a few guys on Scruff who are more "hang out and have a beer" friends than hook-ups. And a couple guys have booked my AirBnB room through Scruff Ventures.

I like Scruff (these days, anyway). It has made for entertaining conversations with local guys in cities where I've been traveling, even when (as is usually the case) we end up never meeting in person.

It's only a hookup site if you design your profile to be one. I've met so many great guys off that app but that's because my profile weeds out the ones looking for just hookups. Don't like hookups? Then just don't tick the "NSA" box and people searching for hookups will not see you. I've made some great platonic friends from Scruff and many of them went way beyond friendship. The people who say it's a hookup app are the very ones who have "NSA" listed in their profiles.

I find with all apps people are flexible about what they're looking for. Only the most shameless check the "right now" box on Grindr. All the guys I've hooked up with on there were "looking for LTR" icon_lol.gif

If you met your boyfriend on there, why do you ask? Just curious....is he logging on and saying just chatting to people?

Me personally, I got rid of scruff...but not necessarily for the hookup reason. To me, scruff was feeling too much of a site for white guys to WOOF at each other and me. And the whole "WOOF" thing became so annoying (guys would actually use it as a pickup line) that I deleted it months ago and never looked back. Lots of older/partnered types. No shade, but not my thing.

You know what's funny...jack'd seems to be where the younger black/multiracial crowd hangs, Grindr is all the fray boy white guys, and scruff is like the bear bar. Crazy how gays segregate themselves voluntarily even virtually lol. I got of fun scruff because I didn't seem to be what "they" were looking for.

We're both still on there, actually, and we're both fine with it. It feels like a gay facebook to me. We're both looking to make new friends and we're in a college city where the scene demographic is way younger. Scruff is just our style of friends. We trust each other and always show each other guys we've chatted with on there.

I like Scruff because it's so very easy to find a no-strings hookup there, but if I were "single" I wouldn't go there to find a boyfriend/partner.

I think it depends on what you make of it. I always thought that Scruff was the bear version of Grindr. I'm sure that friendship can happen on any App if you specify that's what you're looking and like Radd said, not ticking on options that would make you seem like you're looking for a hookup.

"Do people consider Scruff to be just another hookup site?"

I hear CONSTANTLY that ALL male homosexual sites are for finding casual sex. Any OTHER happenings are rare exceptions.

I like Scruff. I've made a lot of good friends and it has a bit more substance than Grindr. It can be a hook up site, but it's great to meet other bears !

Their niche has nothing to do with "bears." It's for guys who like "scruff" or body hair. Most of the guys are actually very fit.

It's what you make it. I don't use any dating apps but I did download Scruff out of curiosity for a day or two a week ago or so.

I've had pretty good luck with the Mister app when I used to use it, a lot of nice guys who actually engage in conversation which you don't find on some others. But it also comes down to how you manage your profile.

It's mainly a hookup app that can be grouped with most other hookup apps. Although I would say the caliber of men are better from Scruff IMO compared to others.

I have had hookups, made friends, and also met my current boyfriend through it.

Similar to what most are saying. It's what you make of it icon_smile.gif

I've chatted a bit, which can be nice. I had a bad experience with one hook-up, so I've cooled a little.

I must have really bad luck, because despite setting mine up for friends, not many people talk to me. Those who do are like one liners and then nothing.
