Why do a lot of Arab men seem gay?

I'm sure this question comes off as really offensive. Sorry I don't mean to be I'm just somewhat curious.

So in my five years living as an expat in an Arab country I must say I have met a lot of Arab men who dressed and acted in certain ways that back home would identify as well gay!. I have had other expats tell me the same that the way men act and speak seems gay.

In the most non-offensive way possible I would like to ask why. Is there something about the way are brought up( and specially The holding hands being super flirty and intimate with each other) or the culture that make them act this way?

Can you explain what you mean by saying they "seem gay" ?
If it's only holding hands and friendly physical contact than yes it's cultural thing. I had a class about international business and we discussed that, the cultural differences in many countries

You are probably just seeing cultural, non-sexual customs like standing too close while talking, kissing men, etc. Actually many Middle-Eastern have laws against being gay, punishable by death or long prison sentences.

When I moved to Southern California, I thought about 80% of the guys I met there were gay. I'd moved from Texas, and previously lived in Arizona and Ohio, and the mannerisms of str8 guys in California would have been considered "fruity" in those places.

There are indeed a lot of gay guys in SoCal - but outside of WeHo, it sure isn't 80%.

Bottom line, different cultures have different standards of behavior and different mannerisms. That's part of what makes them different cultures. Someone who seems effeminate to you may seem masculine to people elsewhere. You yourself may come off as quite effeminate in some other culture.

Don't waste too much time worrying about it.

It's probably cultural. When I went to Italy, two men I met were kissing each other on the cheek. That's probably a taboo among straight guys here in the US.

I experienced this myself too. When I first moved from Asia to the US, I became friend in high school with someone from my country. He walked along side of me holding my shoulder because this was a friendly gesture back in my country. Only after a few seconds, some other students were yelling at us to stop doing that, and we quickly realized this was considered gay here. icon_confused.gif

Lebanon has a lot of pussy ass men. They wear jean shorts and a shirt with a very long v cut and they talk really gay too but somehow gay is not okay.

I think it's mainly due to the segregated environment that Arab men develop homosexual behaviors expressions and tendencies. But what I found even more stupid a bout the Eastern culture is the person doing the penetrating is still considered 'straight' in Arab societies.

The Middle Eastern men, including Iranians and Arabs, that I'd met in the past loved bottoming, but they're certainly not stereotypically gay (if that's what you meant). I think they're hot.

like they're so homophobic to the extend you would actually face the death penalty in some of theses middle eastern counties for being gay yet men and women in these societies are very homoerotic to the extend that lines between "gay" and"straight" undefined and blurry.
