Rumours spread and the news is out, AC/DC's lead singer Brian Johnson is stepping down due to hard hearing problems, and being replaced by Axel Rose (from guns n roses) for now. How do you feel about this switch-up in the music business? Think it's temporary, permanent, ideas of who'd be a better choice, etc. . .

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Personally, I think they should change the name of the band when they change personnel. Unless they are so large a group that it doesn't make a substantial difference.

Oh, so this is an emergency switch in the middle of a tour? Well, the Show Must Go On and all that, I suppose.

I had tickets to see Count Basie, the year that he died. Cab Calloway stepped in to finish the tour with the orchestra. It was a great show, but it wasn't Count Basie.

As in the case of Van Halen, bands of this status are usually ego driven by now.

"Problems" arise when one or the other ego get out of hand, both bands, GNR ACDC, are considered pioneers in their own respective time frames.

Both Axl and Angus have strong, ego driven personalities from what I have read. The 'bow' though, will be to ACDC only for the fact they have been around since the late 70's, that gives Angus the advantage when it comes to exerting his ego and or 'creative difference' over Axl.

Should be interesting to see how these two get along, on tour, Axl's voice sure fits in with Brian's, will see how they do together, in sound and in personal relationships.

AC/DC completely lucked out in having a career past Bon Scott. Few bands survive the loss of a lead singer and even fewer go on to be bigger than they were. Technically Axl is a better singer than Johnson in that he has a broader range but as a performer they are dramatically different. Shit, Axl is a shell of his former self. Seriously go watch clips from the GNR "reunion" shows. I am embarrassed for him. It's unclear if AC/DC still plans to record with Johnson in the future or what, but I can't see them sticking with Axl past him covering the rest of the tour. I honestly don't know who could fill Johnson's shoes. Maybe go the route that Judas Priest did and bring on an unknown.
