Russian authorities are denying claims that Israel's representative to Eurovision 2016, Hovi Star, was humiliated at the Moscow airport because he is a homosexual, according to Israeli media reports.

Star explained during an interview with Maltese TV that several weeks ago he was traveling through Moscow with other performers as part of the Eurovision tour when he was mistreated at passport control because of his sexual orientation.

"In Moscow, people have a rough time with me, maybe because I'm gay, maybe because I dress like this, maybe because I wear makeup—I don't know," Star said.

"When I wanted to get into Moscow I had problems with passport control. They told me I can't go in. They looked at my passport, they ripped my passport and they laughed at me."

Star had to visit the Israel embassy in Russia to get a new passport.

"There was in fact some delay when Star passed through passport control but no one intended to humiliate him in any way," explained Dmitry Melnikov, the event coordinator for the Moscow leg of the tour.

"He was dressed in an eye-catching way and may have interpreted a standard smile of an airport official as abusive," said Melnikov.

"It is amazing that this happened in the Eurovision bubble because my song, 'Made of Stars,' talks about equality, about how everyone was born the same," explained the singer in the interview.

Star explained that he loves Russia and has even visited multiple times but that this experience was "unpleasant."

"I choose love. It's free. There's no need for hate, there's no need for negativity," said Star.

"I choose to really take it as a lesson, I don't take it personally," he added.

Star, 29, whose real name is Hovev Sekulets, will represent Israel in the annual contest to take place in Sweden next month after winning the final round of the reality TV singing competition HaKokhav Haba ["The Next Star"].

Can't you check your hate at the door for even one thread?

You can talk politics in any of these threads:

"Palestine" is the Latin/European name for Eretz Yisrael, the Jewish homeland
and early 20th century Arab denials of the existence of "Palestine".

Yeah, but as we see (again) above, certain cretins hate Jews/Israel more than they care for gays.

But as we see ( again ) above, certain cretins think any criticism of the illegal terrorist state of Israel is anti-Semitic. 2 words, "Grow up".

    Straw man.
Where did you see that in this thread?
Or before (you claimed "again") on RJ?

Nor have you made any coherent criticism of Israel, other then slinging slogans and vapid soundbites of "illegal" (false) and "terrorist" (false) - showing a profound ignorance of international law.

Israel is a legal state, envisioned by the League of Nations following WW I who entrusted it to the Jewish people (who have been living on this land, continuously, for over 3,300 years).

    http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/palmanda.asp

    || Whereas recognition has thereby been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country

    || The Mandatory shall be responsible for placing the country under such political, administrative and economic conditions as will secure the establishment of the Jewish national home, as laid down in the preamble, and the development of self-governing institutions

"In" the country (stated 15 times), not "within" it, only eastern (Trans-Jordanian) Palestine excluded from it, with no other "self-governing institutions" laid out.

The word "national home" was used in deference to the earlier Balfour declaration, but the purpose of Mandates was to establish independent States (not homes or bantustans).

The British mandatory power withdrew on May 14th, 1948, in accordance with UN Resolution 181, and Israel declared independence. What is "illegal" about that?

It was immediately attacked by the armies of 5 Arab states, though Arab attacks began immediately after the passage of UNGAR 181 on Nov 29th, 1947. Including attacks on Jewish villages and the siege of Jerusalem's Jewish community (by then a majority for generations).

As for the "terrorist" charge, states can be guilty of violations of the Geneva Conventions ("war crimes"), only non-state actors can be guilty of "terrorism". The problem haters like you have is that they can't make legitimate criticisms, so are relegated to nebulous, kangaroo court, accusations such as "terrorist". It's laughable.

International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings

    || Any person commits an offence within the meaning of this Convention if....

"Person" is an individual (or group), distinct from "State Party".

I'm guessing this will be lost on you, because one can't reason someone out of a position they arrived at not through reason but via hate.

Now can we get back to the thread topic?
(You can follow any links above and try to make an argument where it is on-topic, otherwise you remain a troll.)

Or were you seriously suggesting that any Israeli traveling anywhere in the world should be arrested for being... Israeli? For existing?

What? Who "dislike[s] Israel because [I am] being a hypocrite"?

The victim of this hate crime is one person, who was arrested in Russia for the "crime" of being gay. That this person is Israeli isn't particularly relevant... except to the haters.

No one said Israel is "perfect" or that it can't be legitimately criticized. This thread, however, is about "Israel's representative to Eurovision stopped in Russia for 'being gay'".

Of course Israel is not at all like Russia.
Israel has an openly gay artist representing it at the Eurovision.
In recent years, an openly trans artist and an Israeli Arab represented Israel.

GladiatorSam saidmwolverine, reason why they dislike Israel because you are being a hypocrite. You are acting like Israel is the only victim of this hate crime. Israel did the same rejected and humiliated many Palestinian-Americans and others too. I hope Israel will learn from this and don't be like Russia.

I don't blame them for disliking Israel, people deserve to know the ugly truth about Israel. There are plenty of articles out there, you can't hide it. Sorry, Israel is not perfect either...

So because an airport is mentioned, anything about an airport is on topic?!
Should I now mention how Palestinian Arab terrorists have hijacked and blown up airplanes?

    This forum is "Gay NEWS".
This thread is "Israel's representative to Eurovision stopped in Russia for 'being gay'"

If you have nothing to say about the subject, might be best if you stopped trolling.
