And my parents wonder why I don't want to visit the country of my origin.
It's pretty sad to see Bangladesh also falling victim to the global nationalist and conservative wave.
Right now it's at a point where islamists wish a remerger with former Pakistani regime; a dictator regime so cruel that the estimated death-toll was 300,000 - 3M (massgraves are still being discovered); simply because they think Pakistani "values" are better (a.k.a. more conservative sharia-laws). That's spitting in the faces of the people who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the ungrateful pieces of shits that spawned after that.
The targets are atheists, secularists, liberals, homosexuals and intellectuals that question the grip of islam holds over the nation. The message is pretty clear, fundamental islamists want to invoke terror. I'm glad that, like many other countries, other political parties are fighting the religious and conservative groups. They even tried to petition to remove islam as an official state religion, but eventually failed due to large protests by islamists. Ironically, Bangladesh was found a secular nation and was even written as one of the country's four principles until it was amended.
Still waiting for Abrhamic religions to do something good in this world.
