Game of Thrones

Normally i save up all my episodes of shows i like and binge watch them all at once but today i broke down and watched the first two episodes of Game of Thrones seeing as how i would probably say it's my favourite show. I am pretty disappointed. Last season was good but lacking in the writing department and this season is even worse. It has become predictable and formulaic and seems to be in a pretty solid 12 episode funk.

I felt this way about season 2 and the first half of season 3, at that point i was considering giving up on it like i had to for Walking Dead, which turned to absolute shit after a very good second season.
Then, halway through season 3 Game of Thrones just became awesome and now it's kind of shitty again.

I mean the sets are still awesome and the characters are interesting and it's still a decent show but it's just a decent show. Seasons 1 and the last half of 3 and 4 were really good. Now it's really not very good at all, except it has swords and dragons and cool costumes and i was invested cause of the first fucking season!

    Meh.

(I posted this in entertainment, i am not sure why it is here, meh)

Hmmm ... I've really liked the episodes so far. Especially now that I know Jon Snow will be back!

I'm still liking it. The problem 8s they kill off too many characters so you have less interest in the surviving cast.
Then they bring in new threats which no one cares about.
They need to limit the deaths so that death means something again.

Years ago before it was made for television I started reading the books it's based on. The first book I more or less enjoyed but still felt that something wasn't quite right. About halfway through the second book I started skimming and flipping pages. With the third book I read the first chapterette and realized that it was the same crap that was in the previous books and stopped and never read any of the rest.

The problem with the books is that there isn't any real character development. Instead of character development he just makes all of them angry and pissed off at someone or about something and they're all wanting revenge. Sorry, but I need a bit more than that. For TV it may not be so obvious but in a book, very.

Yes. For sure. That combined with the lack of character development, leaves a very vacuous feeling at times.

Yeah, that is what was great about season 1 and the last bits of season 3 and 4. It seemed like they were creating characters with more depth that had all sorts of interesting motivations...then they sort of stopped. In turned into more action and simplicity rather than dealing with people's complicated emotions. Now it feels like any character development is just shoe horned in between sword fights or speeches about revenge.

They did a good job with him last year, he was probably the only one other than maybe Jamie.

I mean it's still a good show. Shitty pizza is still pizza! It's just not nearly as good as it was.

Lumpy, you ever watch HBO's Rome?

I don't watch any TV. I don't have cable and my TV is only connect to the PS4.

It takes a while for it to sink in but after you've stopped watching it you realize that they're truly going after the lowest common denominator. A few years ago my brother was staying with me for a few months and I got cable because I knew he wouldn't be able to survive without TV and yep, it's still as bad as I remembered it. Worse actually.

Rome came out in 2005 i think? It's really good. Not 100 percent historically accurate but it's quite good.

The interwebs have plenty of tubes that stream stuff.

I agree most t.v. is shit but there is some good stuff and some really good stuff.

Better Call Saul is one of the best written shows ever. The first 2 seasons of Mad Men is really good. The Sopranos was pretty awesome. Deadwood. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is a really good anime series. There is a lot of good shit out there to just say "t.v. bad, books good" Or are you against any form of entertaiment? LOL
