    this was fun if true
I havent been to the rainforest, but i find it hard to believe there is much of this world that is isolated enough for nobody to know about it. I am sure the locals know. If there was anything valuable it is probably looted if small. I want to see the investigation though.

sure you could hide 4 rooms ala king tut, but a city is pretty big, and full of resources that the locals would scavenge Im sure.

I feel like the fact that it was so deep in the jungle had something to do with it. According to the article, the Mayans built their cities away from rivers, on marginal lands and in the mountains. They built them according to the constellations. Which I guess makes them hard to find. But then again I know next to nothing about archaeology, so who knows.

Still a very cool article. The method he used to find it was very clever, and I guess no one had ever done it before. At 15 I was still struggling to beat video games. : p

Just goes to show the average newspaper reporter is about as educated as a rock. If they'd actually thought about any of these claims for ten seconds, they wouldn't have to be writing all these retractions today.

Well, at least they're doing it. Most of this kind of shit never gets retracted.

There's also a standard formula story that university PR offices like to put out. "Teen (or undergraduate) makes amazing advanced scientific discovery!" When in fact, the true story is that "Teen washes bottles in well-known professors' lab on work-study for a semester, writes term-paper on what he learned about the profs' work."
