I have to agree with this fury. This is just another example of 'gentrification' going on in boystown. This is more evidence that the gay community will eventually migrate to downtown Los Angeles, as the 'affordable option'

If you read what some of the changes are, just sounds like a straight 'production company' taking over the event. The boycott-ers have some points here. $35 at the gate for a day is too expensive, the usual $20 was probably the max I would pay to enter, add to park in WeHo, its another $20 for the day, if you cant find free street parking. 80% of attendees are millennials? So the company wants to turn the event into a music festival? I agree, this is gay pride, not Coachella. icon_confused.gif The new company is age discriminatory?

Wow, I think I just might skip gay pride in WeHo this year, "old people" (over 35) are not welcome icon_confused.gif
It kind of reminds me of why the circuit crowd is now over 35 years of age. Its because these men, 35 to 50, can afford to attend. If you want to attract millennials, the under 35 crowd, you have to keep prices cheap otherwise they wont attend

With this new management and the new changes, this years gay pride in WeHo just might turn out to be a flop icon_confused.gif

#NotOurPride Organizes to Boycott This Year’s LA Pride
    http://www.wehoville.com/2016/05/10/notourpride-organizes-boycott-years-la-pride/

Christopher Street West (CSW), the non-profit organization that puts on the annual LA Pride event, has faced blistering criticism from a variety of LGBT people and organizations with its announcement that it is shifting the annual festivals focus to music, moving away from its traditional focus on LGBT history and culture, and raising the admission price by 40%.

LA Pride surrenders to community demands…well, sort of

How Is CSW Responding to Criticism of Its LA Pride Plans?
    http://www.wehoville.com/2016/05/10/csw-responding-criticism-la-pride-plans/

LGBT publications have complained that CSW accepted only one gay publication, Frontiers magazine, and the Los Angeles Times as media sponsors (such sponsors promote the event, usually in exchange for a free booth at the festival or other amenities). Recently CSW added Adelante, a gay magazine for Latinos, to the list as a sponsor of the Latino music stage. And The Fight will sponsor the Erotic City event at the festival. Troy Masters, publisher of The Pride, an LGBT newspaper, has urged the half dozen other gay publications to join him in protesting CSW’s decision to exclude them. And Jay Jones, publisher of Rage, a gay magazine, said he wouldn’t be willing to sponsor LA Pride if he was asked. “CSW has gone in a direction that doesn’t embrace Pride for everyone,” he said.

Local small businesses and organizations are protesting CSW’s refusal to lease them booths at the festival, as has been done in the past. Booths now are available only to corporate sponsors such as Delta and Budweiser, who pay as much as $10,000 to sponsor the event, and to non-profit organizations. Will Hackner, president of Varsity Gay League, has complained about that decision in a post on Facebook.

    icon_eek.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gif WTF?

    ATTENDEE ELECTRONIC TRACKING

This year CSW will track attendees by requiring them to wear a radio-frequency identification wristband (RFID). That device will enable CSW to grant a person re-entry to the festival after he or she pays an initial entrance fee. RFID devices are controversial because of fears that they can be used to track an individual’s behavior and tie it to a specific person. Some people have raised concerns about how CSW will use that information. CSW says it will use the RFID only to grant entry to the festival and will not track which music events or sponsor booths a particular individual visits.

Stonewall Dems Join Protest Against LA Pride Plans and Ticket Price
    http://www.wehoville.com/2016/05/12/stonewall-dems-join-protest-la-pride-plans-ticket-prices/

“Although there is much to be appreciated in the great effort it takes to produce an event of this magnitude, Stonewall Democratic Club is deeply concerned with decisions your board has made about the theme of the festival, ticket prices, community involvement and Friday night ticketing/programming,” the letter said. “As a result of our concerns, our Steering Committee has voted overwhelmingly to refrain from purchasing a booth at this year’s festival. We will make our decision on whether to continue our very long tradition of participating in the parade contingent upon how you address community concerns in the coming weeks.”

“As a result of your rebranding, the LGBT rights advocacy agenda that Morris Kight – our common founder – envisioned for our organizations has all but been eliminated from the festival’s marketing/messaging,” said the letter, referring to the gay rights activist who was a founder of Stonewall Democratic Club and the original LA Pride parade in 1970. “You have also raised ticket prices to a point that is inaccessible to the majority of our community … We strongly believe the preservation of the original intent of Pride festivities as an inclusive LGBT event is paramount to our continued visibility as a community and its activism, and it is unacceptable to sacrifice this aspect in order to make it more palatable to sponsors and enhance your bottom line.”

This is all crap, I will just skip this year until the "new management" can figure out how to do pride, I don't like the RFID tracking band anyway, are people stealing things? or is this another sign of straight gentrification? icon_confused.gif

CSW Says It’s Sorry About LA Pride Plans
    http://www.wehoville.com/2016/05/13/csw-says-sorry-la-pride-plans/

CSW has agreed to offer free admission to its Friday event. Originally it had proposed charging $35 at the festival gate. After pressure from community members, CSW had agreed earlier this week to free admission from 6 to 8 p.m. and a $10 charge after that and to give free admission to transgender people, who had complained that CSW was reducing festival programming for their community. Now no one will have to pay to enter the festival on Friday.

CSW also announced some programming changes, responding to complaints that it had reduced programming for transgender people and lesbians. “Friday night on the main stage will continue to be a celebration of women with an all-female lineup and the annual Dyke March. The Trans Social, a new Youth Dance and a Vogue Ball will also remain as a part of Friday’s programming. Several activations and new experiences will be eliminated as a result in order to balance the Friday night budget but the Festival will maintain its stellar list of scheduled performances including Krewella, Faith Evans, Da Brat and María José. “

CSW also said it was cutting the price of tickets purchased in advance beginning May 17 from the previously announced $30 to $25. Last year tickets purchased in advance went for $20, and CSW’s proposed 50% increase spurred opposition from many LGBT community members and groups. Tickets purchased at the gate on Saturday and Sunday will go for $30, a reduction of five dollars from the formerly proposed $35. Discounted weekend passes are available for those wanting to attend every day of the festival. “We are still working with our partners on proving FREE tickets to community members including our Volunteer program which provides a free day General Admission pass for anyone who volunteers for a four hour period,” CSW said.

CSW also has apparently dropped the term “music festival” from its promotions. Its decision to shift the focus of the festival to a series of music events focused on Millennials, a term used to describe people ages 18 to 34, was especially contentious. Lesbian activist Ivy Bottini addressed CSW’s focus on Millennials in comments at a City Council meeting earlier this month and at a meeting of the CSW board. “That letter was probably the most ageist thing I have heard in this community since I got here in 1975,” she said, referring to a letter that CSW President Chris Classon sent to council members after an opinion piece in WEHOville by Larry Block that made much of the festival controversy public. In his letter, Classon said the festival’s target audience was young people who are best reached through music.

Where's "the gay" in pride sign? It looks like this was to attract any LA EDM music lover, how rude icon_mad.gif

The 35th LA Pride Run, sponsored by Los Angeles Frontrunners, will take place on June 5 in Griffith Park, rather than the morning of the Pride Parade in WeHo where it was held for 20 years.

It reminds of the changes that were made to Halloween in the Castro that eventually led to its collapse.

This IS a gay sports site, right? Here's the link to this weekend's Pride at the Park, the SD Padres hosting the LA Dodgers at Petco on Saturday:
    https://sdpride.org/oatp/
Hint: cheaper - and better! - seats are available directly thru the Padres' site. Our own Pride Parade and festival ($20) is in mid-July.

If they turn this into a music fest - with name bands - it will be overrun with str8 people and LA Gay Pride will no longer be about being gay.

Exactly icon_confused.gif, WeHo Halloween Carnival, the biggest party in boystown, has already been overrun with str8 people. I am suggesting that if WeHo wants to keep the Halloween party, they move the party to Sunset Blvd

The next biggest event in WeHo, is of course gay pride. Now 'they' want to gentrify this event too, wtf? If 'they' want to create a music festival in WeHo, create it on Sunset Blvd.

Its very confusing as to why str8 people want to take over the gayborhood, unless there is an agenda to get the gays to move to a new space, much like whats going down in S.F., its what happens when you raise prices icon_idea.gif

I agree that the community needs to make their displeasure known but I doubt there's anything Machiavellian going on. I've seen it before. Usually you climb the Board ranks of something like this through cash and influence and these sorts of people feel like they are smarter than everyone else. And entitled. We have a festival here honoring Billy Bowlegs, a British pirate, and being a pirate festival mainly held in a shallow offshore, there's a lot of drinking and craziness. Well one year, there were a couple (2) fights that broke out but were immediately stopped by the guys' mates, no real harm done. But the organizers saw a clip on FB and implemented a draconian police presence and divided the crowd into manageable groups they could patrol. Of course, it drained the energy out of the event and it hasn't recovered.

It sounds like the Weho committee is at least reversing course and listening. Wish ours had.

WeHo is full of straight people these days. Gays no longer live in gay ghettos. They all live in pocket neighborhoods throughout LA. Pride will get scooped up by Live Nation, and then it will be a full on music festival with $200 weekend passes and $10 bottles of water and so on. icon_rolleyes.gif
