It is a common misconception that socialism is about helping poor people. Actually, what socialism does is create poor people, and keep them poor. And that’s not by accident.

Under capitalism, rich people become powerful. But under socialism, powerful people become rich. When you look at a socialist country like Venezuela, you find that the rulers are fabulously wealthy even as the ordinary citizenry deals with empty supermarket shelves and electricity rationing.

Venezuela is sitting on top of a huge oil reserve but the country is a total disaster. Hospitals can't fix broken equipment. Shortage of beds. Patients lying on the floor in their own blood.

In the USSR and the Warsaw Pact countries the only rich people were those high up in the communist party.

This should be old news for everyone. Socialism eventually fails whenever it is tried.

Sanders and his fellow travelers are naive. I guess every generation has to learn there is no free lunch for itself.

Stupid examples when there are many countries in Europe much more analogous to the US that provide everything Bernie is proposing and pays for it just as he says. Why do Republicans have the intellectual depth of a five year old?

You're a little angry piece of shit aren't you? Life treat you badly? Bitter much?

No, Bernie Sanders, Scandinavia is not a socialist utopia

No, Scandinavia doesn’t “violate the laws of the economic universe.” It confirms them. With free markets and healthy values, almost any society will thrive. Socialism only makes things worse.

LOL - I provided a link to an article about Scandinavia to challenge your stupid comment but you failed to respond. Just like you ran away with your tail between your legs in this thread, dummy.

But to balance having fun with an aging bitter shell of a man I have a positive recommendation for you. Get a trainer and work harder in the gym. Maybe something positive can come out of your failed life.

Says the child who's afraid to show his face. And your link was worthless. One guy's opinion piece. Every first world nation provides universal health coverage, most provide free college just as we do through 12th grade. Most provide paid sick leave, childbirth leave, preschool daycare, and longer vacations. Your analytical skills are less than sophomoric and your pointless comments on my life at the beach confirm your lack of maturity. I'm done with you.

Wait a minute, Destinharbor does have some valid points and that is a guy that I have angrily crossed swords with in the past to the point of ignoring him. There are some things that definitely need improvement in the US and we would be wise to adapt some of the European, Japanese, and Canadian programs like longer vacations, paid sick leave, and preschool daycare. If we can afford to give big fortune 500s tax cuts and incentives, fund professional sports teams with our tax dollars, and let Wall Street run amok on everyone than by golly we can easily afford paid sick leave, preschool daycare, and longer vacations because Americans are horrendously overworked and underpaid for the most part. Extremes on either the capitalist or socialistic sides are the disastrous failures. But a moderate, centrist mix of both capitalism and socialism can work if implemented carefully. Remember, everything in moderation. It is time to jack up the taxes on all Wall Street trading and speculation because those crooks are rich enough. We also need to permanently discard the horrendously failed supply side trickle down economics and repeal all these disastrous failures known as free trade agreements.

A EU that is economically in shambles. Also those countries as in Canada's case could not really stand on their own two feet. They have economies bolstered by the defense spending of the United States.

Germany is a clear example , it spends little on defense proportionally.

Socialism only works with a relatively small number of like-minded people; otherwise, it's a complete disaster waiting to happen. Watch how Europe disintegrates over then next few years due to the Islamic influx (it's happening now).
