jimib saidSomething I have been pondering lately. As gay/bi/other men we don't usually have regular real life role models. Our parents are usually straight. And nearly everyone we know(at least 86%) are straight. So perhaps all we have to base our lives on is the fantasy of porn. Every top has 7.5 inches that are always erect. Bottoms are always prepared for sex. No lube needed. Condoms if they are used, appear out of nowhere and disappear into nowhere. All bodies are enviable. Black men don't bottom and have garden hoses instead of penises.
Are we constructing our lives based on the fantasy of porn?
Do you mean that straight people base their entire lives in their parents' sexual life so they don't watch porn?
I'm actually NOT saying anything. I'm asking a question that has been on my mind awhile. Of course straight people watch porn. BUT in addition to the fantasy of porn, straight people are surrounded by other real life straight people, most of whom are average. My question is since there are so few real life role models for gay men, do we accept the fantasy of porn as real?
So what type of role models do gay people need? Being sexually attracted to and having sexual relationship with members of our own sex is the only thing that separates us from straight people.
If I'm gay and want to be an engineer what does it matter if my role models are straight? What does being gay have anything to do with engineering? Or a banker, or a realtor, or an accountant, or any profession? Even straight guys can be paid enough to do gay porn.
It's just not professions either. You don't have to trumpet your sexual orientation to role model any specific human behavior. A straight role model can be just as good a role model as a gay role model for any number of human characteristics - bravery, honestly, loyalty, trustworthiness, compassion, etc.
