I was just ramdomly browsing the web and I saw this comment from this guy on yahoo:

EugeneMy 2 gay dads say straight people don't have the ability to reason and use logic like gay people and say that's why straight people are easily fooled into following and doing what ever a fairy tale book says. Is this really true? I've been making bad grades in all my classes, is it because I'm straight?

I dont know where the hell they got that from or the relationship between sexual orientation and your IQ, but that's just hilarious icon_lol.gif

I have not seen any evidence to support such a connection.

One however may find a correlation if one asks sexual orientation and looks at education levels. I havent seen such a study, but i would not be suprised by the results, nor would it point to gay people people smarter. Generally the higher up you go in socioeconomic status the more likely you are to to be openly gay and more likely to get a higher education.

Just speculating though. I have not seen an ounce of good evidence either way.

No I think gay people are just more exposed than most straight people. We see a lot of things within the gay scene that others might not see. We have had to fight for our rights so we can relate to people who have been opressed. We're usually more open minded about things, therefore open to new ideas and different ways of thinking.

We also don't have to follow the 'normal' hetrosexual lifestyle which is to get married, have kids and work a job. So we have more time to travel, stay in school longer, try out different careers even in our 30's and other things that people who are tied down might not get chance to do.

If gay people are smarter then it is certainly not obvious! I think Sean85 outlined some of the advantages that gays have very well. We are outside the societal norm, so I think many gays are willing to question things that straights take for granted.

Every gay person who is out or proud has a story of a long way of struggeling, questioning and lot's of thinking ... but sometimes gay poeple are sooo stupid ..
They musn't say that to him - the same story of gay's aren't good enought is swiped now against the poor str8 son .. It makes them as bad as the str8 society that depress the gay minority ..

I think we have all had to come to terms with our sexuality, at least anyone that is a member of a gay fitness site probably has. In coming to terms with sexuality, we learn to question a lot of societal conventions. That bit of adversity broadens the mind maybe a bit, so gays tend to be more.. sympathetic, I guess.

    Smarter? I'd say no.

I'd just like to add that if that gay parent story is true, that's an example of how my first statement is often wrong. Those parents can't be saying that kind of sh!^ around their kids. That's just stupid.

Now that could be a topic for a new thread...

Gay people are smarter than ???

I'll start it off by answering: Mariah Carey... the girl can sing, but she's about as dumb as they get.

Are gay people smarter? Take a random sample of any 30 minutes of gay-bar conversation and the question is answered!

LOL Good point. In January I was recruiting people for a DOMA protest here in Omaha, most people in the bars didn't even know what DOMA was. One person was even adamant that DOMA hadn't even passed yet. icon_lol.gif

I don't think there is any correlation... I'm sure there are those that claim that "gay people are __________ than straight people (fill in the blank and its probably not positive). Usually those who make those kind of comments are critics.

I remember reading that researchers discovered that there are a few physical differences between average gay and straight people. The two I remember were that gay people were 9 times more likely to be left handed and had an average IQ of 126.

    Somehow I doubt it, but...

Compare the forums at, say, bodybuilding.com with those on gay.com. As silly and insipid as these can get, they are still about a light year ahead in terms of civility, clarity, and logic.

So maybe gay jocks are smarter than straight jocks.icon_wink.gif

Seriously! You're kidding. My sister is smarter than I am and she's straight.
Soooo, I'm guess that the theory is not true! LOL!
