Did any of you happen to catch the Billboard Music Awards ?

Madonna's performance sure received a lot of criticism. I didn't particularly enjoy it , i just thought it was boring, but I think she did a decent job.
I'm suprised at all the backlash she's gotten.

Hmm. I mean, compared to some of the other acts, it just fell flat, which is why I can understand a bit of the negativity. When some of the regular acts performed better than something that was supposed to be a tribute to one of the best musicians in the business (i.e. say what you will about Celine Dion, but she killed her performance. Like, triple homicide), it will rub people the wrong way.

    Rihanna did better, too. Rihanna.

Wasn't there a stink because some thought a black person should to the tribute so the producers had bloated Stevie Wonder thrown in the mix?

I thought it was ok having Madonna do the tribute she was after all a contemporary of Prince. There maybe could have been more artists involved. Madonna's performance was a snooze fest. I was waiting for her and her cane to tumble down those steps. I think she was kind of worried too because she sort of paused and looked down them for quite awhile.

Lol, savage! Stevie can sing his "bloated" ass off - no need to attack the guy.

Oh, he can sing alright - all the way to the kitchen. Don't get me wrong. I love me some Stevie. I was just taken aback at how large he was. Hadn't seen him in awhile.

I really liked her purple outfit and the purple chair despite all the criticisms of her performance, either do the whole song or pic another one, she basically just sang the chorus to Purple Rain and not the whole song, which I am not sure why. Just shows everyone, Prince was a one of a kind artist, difficult to duplicate icon_neutral.gif

Most people didn't get it because they are not in tune to the universe

That bullshit was absolutely terrible and more a slap in the face than a tribute. I have seen drunk people sing at karyoke night sound better and her whole performance was worse than a BAD American Idol audition. And yet this worthless tramp is one of the biggest stars ever....unreal.

Hopefully this will be a lesson learned, and she'll either retire, or remarry Penn so he can beat the shit out of her again and keep her tied up at home so we don't have to suffer through her 'vocals'.

Personally, (after the Gaga-Bowie tribute mess) I thought she did a great job. i thought she looked great and did justice to the song. No over the top dramatic wailing. And, she didn't fall down the stairs. LOL It was nice.

I'm not a fan of The Madonna but I thought she did a fairly good job.

I thought Madonna did an awesome job (let's face it, Madonna gets criticized for everything she does) and the choice of "Nothing Compares 2 U" as the song was perfect. Also, the surprise appearance on stage of Stevie Wonder to duet with Madonna on "Purple Rain" was also excellent.

I think Madonna was a very good choice to do a tribute. She is the last survivor of the 80s trinity. Prince, Michael Jackson and Madonna ruled the 80s and at about the same time. However, her tribute was...horrible. I think she should have done a more upbeat, dance oriented tribute which she excels at (such as a celebration of Prince). Instead she sang 2 of Prince's more challenging vocal ballads and didn't have the vocal ability to pull it off. Her vocals were just plain bad. To make matters worse, she attempted to sing the Sinead O'Conner version of "Nothing Compares to U" which didn't work because crazy Sinead had a better voice when she recorded it than Madonna does now. Madonna should have at least changed the song up a bit and make it her own. I was excited to see Madonna do the tribute as she usually does a great live show. However this was just BAD...embarrassingly bad.

It wasn't that bad it could have been worse believe me. When Madonna's voice wobbles it's because she's nervous. She chose a vocally challenged song as well

I thought it was decent. But I think it's important to consider that her performance was her tribute to Prince first, and entertainment for us second. So let's appreciate that rather than blasting her for her performance. Her heart was in the right place.

And Madonna is soooo used to being dissed in public. By necessity, the woman has developed the thickest skin of any human being.

    Always been a fan!
