Anyone with some tips, interesting stories, lessons learned or even guidelines for it?

Not saying i'd want to, i have tried, and failed. I'm not sure if it was me or the exclusive modeling scene in Cape Town.

The idea was brought up when a RJ member told me i should try again...

Send some pics to reputable agencies. They will let you know if you got what it takes. If you don't hear back, there's your answer.

Agencies make their money off of you. If they think they can make a buck off your looks, they will jump at the chance. In the meantime, get an education.

I've seen many RJ threads by young men asking about their modeling prospects.

    And they're ALL under 5'10".

And they RARELY specify what type of modeling they're talking about.

This member appears to be too short for runway by at LEAST 5 inches, to thin for underwear/swimsuit and not conventionally attractive enough for print. And I can't believe he hasn't gotten any of that feedback before.

Not that he's not cute. Maybe he'll be the one-in-a-million different enough to break through. Or maybe a billion. Because he's only 5'8". Which is great for bodybuilding but not for runway. There are lots of models who get booked even when they look unconventional to the point of being ugly, or even - gasp! - fat. But never ugly AND fat. And I believe with the exception of specialty petite modeling for WOMEN, never, EVER ugly and SHORT. Or fat and SHORT. Or even HANDSOME and short.

But even then, a career in legit male modeling, with the rarest of exceptions, costs more than it pays.

He has a better shot at acting.

It might be because you hit the gym 43 times a week at an hour each. Doesn't leave much room for life, let alone an occupation. icon_lol.gif

What kind of modeling work that you want to pursue?
If you're thinking about high fashion modelling work, it's probably best for you to look for something else because those guys are either 6'2" (mostly) or 6'1" (rarely).
And their chest measurement cannot go over 40 inches, and waist measurement cannot go over 32 inches.
It's probably easier for you to be a fitness model if you got the muscle for it. They don't have to be that tall.

Don't expect to get paid as much as your female model counterparts. Women get paid more than men in the modeling industry.

My intent with the thread was never to gauge people on trying modeling again. It was more "what has your time in the modeling agency taught you ".

I know im too short for generic clothing catalogues, and yes ive had better luck at acting but tht was sparse too.

So any stories bout being a model anyone?

Well you definitely have the look but don't they look for guys that are taller? Most ads I see state the model is 6' 1'' and wear a size medium so they kind of thin.

I think most guys that can't get into modeling, turn to being a DJ. If you're moderately attractive and have a nice body, you get to live the model party lifestyle.

I did modeling for Saks Fifth Avenue back in my early days - charity modeling, that is. I wasn't paid a cent! I was just one of the guys on my water polo team who got into it for fun. But the guys who did this for a career all got portfolios together and got hooked up with an agency. By age 28 or so, they moved on to other careers. A lot of standing around while they change lights and settings is what I remember.

I did that stuff for awhile,
your height isn't important if you're going to be working with moving cameras and stuff like that because they prefer short anyway Cus camera angles n stuf

A lot of men in the media r actually very short between 5'8-5'10 and u all think they're super sexy and don't even kno they are a twink in real life

working as a standin (I'm on the far right)
    Fptn631.jpg

When u go to auditions n stuff like that just act like u belong there

before photo shoot in my trailer

    [/img]

anyway I did that stuff since 2012 - 2015 & im moving in 3 months to the lake to live off my residuals an rediscover myself in nature

also u need to have a thick skin Cus once u start doin any of that stuff professionally all ur friends n stuff become super jealous and rly toxic / u can't talk about ur experiences because it just puts a bad vibe into the air

    Carry sage with u ha

Why do you want to do it?

My first (ex) bf was an actor/model, and the modelling side was pretty boring. I actually went with him to a casting once and it was a huge amount of just sitting around waiting, for a 5 minute slot, and then you don't even get the gig.

So you have to have a LOT of patience. It's a stereotype that models are dumb and obviously they aren't always, but a lot of the time dumb people are happy to sit around and wait for their career because they can't really do much else.
