You would think some of the areas more advertised "LGBT best places to work" would have chipped in and or come out publicly to condemn these attacks in the Oak Lawn gayborhood since it is a part of their workforce community, but I am glad this man has stepped up, just hope the Dallas PD uses the money wisely

LGBT communities have come under attack this week, with the Orlando shooting in a gay nightclub that killed 49 people.

An Indiana man was also stopped and arrested by police on his way to a California gay pride parade with explosives and firearms in his vehicle.

Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner and star of TV show “Shark Tank,” doesn’t want it happening in his town. So he told Mayor Mike Rawlings on Wednesday that he would donate $1 million to the Dallas Police Department.

The money will be earmarked for 16,000 hours of police overtime to enhance counterterrorism efforts, Rawlings said in a press release.

“I’m proud to be able to help the City of Dallas,” Cuban said.

The press release specifically named the Oak Lawn area as a point where police presence will be increased. Oak Lawn is an area of Dallas known for its LGBT community, according to the Dallas Morning News. Residents and patrons of the area were on edge last year after a series of robberies and beatings occurred, and some believe the unsolved attacks were hate-motivated.

“The Dallas Police Department thanks Mark Cuban,” said Dallas Police Chief David Brown in the release. “These funds will be used primarily to protect the LGBT community. We will earmark and track the expenditure of these funds to ensure its effective use in creating a safe environment."

Lets not downplay the number of Oak Lawn gay attacks months before Orlando, Dallas PD has made NO arrests in any attack, while attacks continue

I agree. I frequent Dallas as part of my work trips, and it's sad that they haven't found the person yet associated with these mass hate crimes... Of course, in walking through, I always have "my buddy." I will tell you though, we as people just have to be about situational awareness. I look around and see so many people glued to their phone screens, that if someone approaches them from behind, they have no idea of how to describe the attacker.
