MateoLA saidHand guns are one thing. Assault weapons are another. Just like the nuclear arms race, a race for assault weapons will never bring peace to any community.
And the NRA's self-serving logic (endorsed & funded by weapons manufacturers, and gun owners compensating for feelings of personal inadequacy) is to arm EVERYONE. Just what the US needs - a weapons race to make our streets look like a movie version of the Wild West.
Or the warped logic of gun advocates that if we ban high capacity weapons we should ban knives, too, because knives also kill people. Think a single knife-wielding crazy could have killed & injured over 100 people in a nightclub? Even a semi-automatic handgun couldn't accomplish that, but an AR15-style rifle can.
Hell, I taught soldiers to shoot the M-16 military version of this thing. Ran firing ranges for it. Was myself qualified at the highest Army Expert rating with this weapon. I know this rifle inside & out, what it can do, and it isn't for personal protection downtown, or in your home. Nor does it make a good hunting rifle. Likewise the same is true for other military-type weapons. Their design is for combat only.
If you wanna play with these things then join the Marines, buddy, what the 2nd Amendment was really addressing. Not about you walking down a 21st-Century US street armed like a renegade commando.
But this is what the NRA and its political puppets want us to believe. They've taken to calling it "America's Rifle". That's like calling poisoned Kool-Aid "America's Drink". Both a product of brainwashed collective madness. Each as deadly to us as the other, neither a solution to any of our problems, but rather, symptomatic of the problems themselves.
