    Does the long term tenant have a lease in force?

    Or is he now renting on a month to month basis?

    Without a lease, IDK what the tenant can legally do.

    I'm not current on rent rates in San Francisco; but his old rent sounds like quite a bargain.

    that is a 4x increase in rent.
    my guess he had a lease and they wanted him out

    There is just no excuse for this other than greed...........
    Its probably because his apartment is under rent control, in the video he filed complaint w rent stabilization board, the building looks pre 1979. Even on a month to month, landlords cant raise the rent more than stated percentage mandated by state or local law
