Orlando City Commissioner To GOP Politicians: ‘You Loaded Those Bullets With Hatred’

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/patty-sheenan-orlando-gop_us_57712d5ce4b017b379f671c0Orlando’s openly lesbian city commissioner, Patty Sheehan, a formidable long-time activist for LGBT equality, has been in the national spotlight for the past two weeks fighting to make sure the media didn’t take the focus off of the victims of the mass-shooting at the Pulse nightclub in her city: largely LGBT Latinx in a popular queer nightspot.

In an interview with me on SiriusXM Progress, she said she’s angry that many GOP politicians wouldn’t even say the words “LGBT” or “gay,” and were thereby attempting to straightwash the targets of the attack. She also has a message for those GOP politicians who both have voted against LGBT rights and voted against gun safety measures, yet expressed sympathy for the victims.

“Marco Rubio, the senator from Florida, walked on our blood-stained streets with people from the Hispanic community,” Sheehan observed of Rubio, who has been a vocal opponent of LGBT rights and even promised if elected president to try to overturn the Supreme Court’s historic marriage equality ruling. “And he went right back to Washington – one of the few times he actually showed up for work – and voted against sensible gun legislation.”

‘If this doesn’t change your heart?” she continued, not needing to finish the rhetorical question. “There were people from [Rubio’s] office – it was [a staffer’s] hair stylist who got shot and killed. This was a personal connection people from his office had with these young people. And he still couldn’t find it in his heart to do the right thing.”

Florida’s GOP governor, Rick Scott, like Rubio, has also opposed LGBT rights and even as recently as earlier this year signed anti-LGBT legislation.

“My governor couldn’t say the word ‘gay’ — until he was called out on it,” Sheehan commented, then broadened her critique to other Republicans. “And I’ve called a lot of them out on it. I said, ‘How dare you come here to my city – our city – and stand in front of the microphone and take up space….You loaded those bullets with hatred, as far as I’m concerned.’”

Commissioner Sheehan's emotions are, understandably, pretty raw, but she makes valid points. Politicians like Gov. Scott, Senator Rubio, and many others, have openly and unashamedly fought to deny basic human rights to the LGBT community. Their feigning of concern for the LGBT victims in Orlando is the lowest form of political opportunism -- they could not have cared less about those people prior to the massacre, and I doubt their sincerity in its aftermath. Actions speak louder than words, and their actions are consistently and clearly hateful and bigoted against the entire LGBT community.

And the Republicans will do the same with any minority they feel they can oppress if it fires up the hatred of the base and feeds them cash or power.

UMayNeverKnow saidBlah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Over 300 million Americans didn't shoot up gays that night. Put the blame squarely where it belongs ON THE SHOOTER.

It's fucking amazing but if anyone painted Islam, with its horrendous human rights record on gay people, with the same broad brush you liberals would be screaming ISLAMOPHOBE!

The hypocrisy is palpable. But then again she has a better chance of being murdered for insulting Allah, Islam, and the "prophet" than insulting conservatives. Chicken shit bitch.

You are 100% wrong. Even just recently, I've put out many threads about the Radical jihadist responsible for Orlando including the wife accomplice. Also I did a few threads on the gay grandson of the terrorist Hamas founder, the kid who fled his family's intent to "honor kill" him.

And I didn't stop there. Did I? I also examined--check out gay news--other world religions & cultures and their treatment of us. I even listed in the titles their percent of world population and whether or not they even acknowledged our dead.

I did all that because we need to see what causes the misery in our lives so that we have a chance to address and maybe even fix that. What creates the atmosphere of hate towards us. Who is by their individual or cultural actions responsible for denying us overall our civil rights and protections, our humanity. What lead to a guy of any nation thinking its okay to mass murder us?

So you can go fuck yourself if you don't like that we'll bravely call out all the places from where hate derives, be we find that outside these borders or within. Be the hate from Muslims or be the hate Republican. Be the hate imported, or just the crap rattling around in your head. Palp that.

Yes, those who incite and call for violence are just as guilty as those who pull the trigger (or slit a throat).

I think you're confused. That concept was lifted from the Dem playbook.

There will be no appeasement. Islamists feel morally free to achieve their aims peacefully or violently, publicly or secretly, whichever suits. They follow a revolutionary doctrine, so there are no moderates. Islamism is declaredly determined to overthrow our way of life. Recent years prove its determination is matched by actions almost every day, almost everywhere. Like the Bolsheviks between 1905 and 1917, Islamists have moved fast from ranting to ruling, and they preach their creed globally. The phrase “existential threat” fits.

The mass murder of innocent civilians in Orlando, in Tel Aviv and in Kiryat Arba is just as illegal, unjustifiable and reprehensible.

AyaTrolLiar> a bomb in... Israel has an entirely different backstory leading up to it than a bomb in a gay nightclub in Orlando.

Yet that "backstory" changes nothing and makes the crime no less illegal, unjustifiable or reprehensible.

No less than someone who claims that you can justify the mass murder in Orlando because those killed were ho-mo-sexshuals, that the "backstory" of gay perversion was at play.

AyaTrolLiar Founcer/JTheM is a nutjob who thinks that murdering Jews is fine, just like other nutjobs think that murdering gays is fine.

Ponder the perversity: the mass murder of Jews for him is somehow "different"?!
In AyaTrollah Nutjob's mind the bedroom of a sleeping child is a "war zone"?!
Maybe a gay bedroom is also a "war zone" and gays can be murdered there, too?

AyaTrolLiar Founcer/JTheM> A psycho gay shooting up a nightclub in Orlando is a random hate crime (possibly motivated by self-hate, whatever).

Is this moron even gay that he barely knows what happened in Orlando?
Initially referencing it as a bombing?
The shooter wasn't gay (according to the FBI, early rumors that he was on gay apps was wrong).
Ignoring that his attack was (at least) inspired by ISIS?

    But look at the perversion:

A psycho incited by his leaders to murder Jews, slitting the throat of a random sleeping girl, has "reason" behind it.

And that a sleeping child's bedroom is a war-zone in his sick and perverted mind.

No less sick and perverted than someone who would say a gay bar is a war-zone (and I don't think even the Phelpsites have gone that far).

He is totally drunk on the kool aid, completely consumed by his hate.

Glad to see this City Commissioner standing up to the GOP hate machine.
They feed the flames of hatred every day with their anti-gay rhetoric and policies.

AyaTrolLiar> Of course he has reasons. Which... has nothing to do with the act being right or wrong.

Just as terrorists had "reasons" for 9/11 or the recent attack in Belgium or Turkey... or Orlando.

Decent people would emphasize not the "reasons" but that the mass murder is wrong.
Then there's AyaTrolLiar Founcer/JTheM, the "all around shitty excuse for a human being" according to Sharkspeare, who to the contrary has asserted that Palestinian Arabs have the "right" to murder Jews.
