I am slated to move to Austin in July. I applied to grad school at U.T. Austin, and this weekend is my first time visiting.

My question is: what are some cool things to see and do in Austin? Plus, we will be celebrating Valentine's Day. We are going to check out the Mexic-Arte Museum and the University.

    I friggin love Austin.
Hit Lake Travis and possibly the Oasis Restaurant (very casual) - it over looks the lake, seated down a hillside.
6th street is fun - touristy, but what the hell and adjacent to plenty of night time venues, bars, etc
Oil Can Harry's was the gay bar to be scene and a fun crowd the times I've been (not too pretenious)
Plenty of great upscale restaurants to choose from - one sits with a view of the outter city where the bats of Austin (millions) can be seen exiting their caves at sunset - I forget the name of the place.

Great city, I miss it icon_cry.gif

    Welcome to Austin.

This is an awesome city. Word of warning though, most people who come here for school don't ever want to leave when they're done.

Town Lake, now known as Lady Bird Lake, is a nice place to go for a run in the middle of the city. The weather should be nice enough on Saturday that you can go for a jog or a stroll on the trail. There will be plenty of people out enjoying the weather.

Personally, I would avoid E. 6th St. That's mainly where the 18-23 crowd goes. I would stick to W. 6th St. or the Warehouse District. The Warehouse District is where the gay bars are, but there are plenty of other nice bars in the area.

There's so much to do here, it's hard for me to give you a comprehensive list. Send me an email with any specific questions you have.

Austin is a very cool place. The people are awsome there too. I used to live in round rock just north of the city and would go to austin every weekend. Never did too much outside of 6th street though. its a shame really. I need friends that arent so lame and actually do stuff.
