Whether one supports him or not, at least Trump gave a true Republican speech for all of you who aren't old enough to recall what Republicans used to represent, as opposed to the Religicans who have hi-jacked the party in the last forty-plus years. He and Bernie Sanders were right on point about the loss of the wealth-producing manufacturing base of the country. The terrible state of the nation's infrastructure definitely requires renewal, a classical Republican position. And Trump was mercifully uninterested in what is going on in the bedrooms of America, also a classical Republican attitude (as opposed to fundamentalist Religicans or to his unfortunate choice for Vice President in their hypocritical voyeurism).

It's the 21st century. Republicans need to excise out the undue influence of social conservatives if they ever want to successfully govern. If they can't do that I see a split of the party into economic conservatives who are socially progressive and those who are merely socially conservative.

I don't think gay rights are an issue for presidential politics anymore.

Why? Polls on gay marriage strongly favor us. Trump gave favorable mention LGBTQ twice and got a standing ovation. Peter Thiel came out as a gay republican and got an ovation. Milo is a flamboyant gay popular on the FAR RIGHT. Democrats will fear monger out of desperation...but we've moved on.

-in 28 states you can get legally married than fired from your employ for being gay.
-95% of the general population approved of men and a women kissing on the cheek, but only 55% thought it ok for 2 men

just on the assumption you want to be married to the person you love and have a career, there needs to be more work done. Conservatives will be accepting only if the gay couple knows their place and likes looks of the inside of a closet.
Why puddle around waiting for a more conservative government to do something, grab your just due rights right now.

What planet do you live on where Republicans don't care about what's going on in our bedrooms???
