First of all - hello to all and I apologize for being just another idiot who spams the forum with a question. I have "met"/talked to some really nice and well-mannered guys on here and I am nicely surprised by the comments I read on the forums, the majority of you are really rational, nice and earth-grounded people. I haven't been online for a while and my inbox has been cleared, which is kind of a bummer, because I've exchanged some nice messages with some of you, etc and I like having the info.

The question: How that clearing works, what is the principal - was it, because i was inactive for some time, does RJ automatically cleans the mail at some fixed period of time or is it a one time thing I caught, because the site recently changed it's look ? Should I keep track and save the info somewhere else or ...

Other than that I have found the forums quite convenient, well except the content of 'group activities' section, which I find pointless and somewhat childish, but each to his own.

Thanks in advance to those of you who would answer.

I think the system deletes all email after 90 days.
    Even unread emails.

The oldest still in my in-box is May 13. The system drops old messages after a while but I haven't figured out the pattern.

    Hi,

I checked your account, and there are 74 emails dating back to May 12, 2016. You may want to restart your browser or try another browser for a short period of time. I'm not sure why you aren't seeing the saved emails.

Please let me know how it goes.

Signed out, entered again, changed the browser and still nothing. Also, clicking on a member and trying to view the mail history through there doesn't work either
(I thought I might not be able to see the messages, but still access them this way - this only goes for the missing emails, those who are still in the inbox show up accordingly).

I see only 31 - and there seems to be no correlation to what has remained and what is gone. Only 10 are somewhat older, the rest (that remain) are quite recent. Thanks for your help, I'd figure a way around it, I just found it strange that I don't seem to have a memory space for inbox like in most sites and have the ability to chose which ones to keep and which ones to delete, instead they seem to disappear at random, not by date order - I have a few quite old, while the rest are missing oO .

On a different note: when I quote someone's post does he receive a notification, that he was quoted in a thread or does he not ?

    No, you are not notified.

Regarding your earlier post, one of the reasons I like RJ is because it has guys smarter than me. My Mother always told me to associate with people smarter than me. It's the only way to improve.

There are certainly lots of stupid guys on RJ, however. You'll see me not cutting them a lot of slack. Perhaps ungracious behavior by me, but as the saying goes, I don't suffer fools gladly. Nor political plants. Not unlike many other social sites,

Welcome aboard. I hope you enjoy your stay here.
