Secondary Progressions are a contemplative symbol for

    deeply felt experiences and
    inspirations for meaningful self-reflection

    The Old Farmer's Almanac says:

In 2016, Mercury will be retrograde during:

    January 5 to 25.
    April 28 to May 22.
    August 30 to September 22.
    December 19 to 31.

Time does not exist like physical objects do,
nor do we have a sensory perception of time.

    There are many subjective factors
that do not conform to a clock:
    moods, sentiment, feelings, reactions, senses,
    and memories.

Astrological timing does not only chronicle outer events or experiences,
but astutely maps phases of the inner life.

Transits identify the cosmic synchrony of events in the outer world WHICH
mirror those of the inner world.
[So, an astrologer or self-astrologer] needs to be able to synchronize time
    in both worlds
even though Secondary Progressions use one order of time
to give meaning to the outer world which has another order of time
where we see ageing, episodes, date markers.

Our body has the time of the external world.
Our psyche has the measurement of time such that
the day after your birthday is year 1
the second day after your birthday is year 2
the 20th day after your birthday is year 20
the 50th day after your birthday is year 50
the 80th day after your birthday is year 80
the 110th day after your birthday is year 110.

Remember, a Solar Sign is about 30 days.
Someone who lives to age 35 progresses:
    from Aries to Taurus or
    from Taurus to Gemini or
    from Gemini to Cancer or
    from Cancer to Leo or
    from Leo to Virgo or
    from Virgo to Libra or
    from Libra to Scorpio or
    from Scorpio to Sagittarius or
    from Sagittarius to Capricorn or
    from Capricorn to Aquarius or
    from Aquarius to Pisces or
    from Pisces to Aries

I know a Pisces who has progressed to Taurus.
    Interesting.

Secondary Progressions are the re-enactment of an earlier time previously impressed upon the psyche.

The Moon [the character of one's feelings/emotional life; instinct, intuition, emotion, vacillation, responsiveness]
progresses into a new sign every 2-1/4 years.
Working with the progressed Moon over time, you begin to discover the deep archival content that it holds.

Yes, I'll be more than kind and pleasant, I'll be your spiritual guru and friend.

A Saturn Return takes about 29 years.
There's a difference between an orbit and a return.
There's no retrograde in an orbit but there is a retrograde in a return viewed from the Earth.
I have the Saturn orbit at 29.5 years. I have the Saturn return at 29 years.

    29
    29+29 = 58
    29+29+29=87

    A Progressed Moon Return:
    27.5
    27.5+27.5 = 55
    27.5+27.5+27.5 = 82.5

So, Youth ends age 27.5 to 29,
    Adulthood is 28-30 to 55-58
    Elder is 56-59 to 82.5-87

My mom fell in her kitchen yesterday evening.
She called my brother, older than me by 4 years at 6:50 am today.

Mostly, the progressed lunar return is about a time of reckoning:
how have I lived my life up until now, and do I want to continue this way?

Often, crises come up during this time that force our hand,
often leading us to make the right decision in spite of ourselves.

We’re meant to clear away the old habits and patterns
so that we can spend more time connecting with the people and things that give our lives meaning.

There is often a lot of cutting off at the progressed lunar return,
particularly of ties that no longer serve their purpose.

If we’re doing our lunar returns correctly, we should be spending more and more of our time and energy on what matters.

Often, we lose parents at this crossroads.
The death of a parent is often symbolic of the death of an old way of life,
and at this time we may be able to step away from familial patterns and imprinted psychological constraints.
We may discover how these patterns prevented us from acting as our genuine selves,
and may feel a new sense of liberation.
We may find that we can break the heavy chain of generations.

At the progressed lunar return, we will be confronted once again with the issues surrounding our natal lunar aspects.

    http://theinnerwheel.com/2011/08/06/spiral-up-or-down-the-second-progressed-lunar-return/

My brother's third progressed lunar return - we lost our father.
My third progressed lunar return - we might lose our mother.

So the criticism: see, it doesn't work, the rule doesn't work for each of you.
It's an off-ramp for parents--should in the life between lives it is planned that way by them or for them.

    I have:
Oh, I have plenty natal lunar aspects.
Some of what I have is
    Moon Sesisquare Venus
Moon Square Mars (Feelings square masculine sexuality, with the wounded healer in H8: that explains a lot.)
Moon quincunx/inconjunct AC (I do not instinctually "get" myself? So, I have to intellectualize myself to know myself? That's my emotional relationship to myself. Of course, I have a Chinese Water Heaven Element, so my grasp could be somewhat slippery)

I finished reading the article tonight.

One piece of advice in it is to know the house of one's progressed moon and give emotional energy to the issues of that astrological house.

Progressed Moon in H4, so that is time to direct emotional energy to:

    Emotional vulnerabilities
    Early life with parents
    Home & Real Estate
    Mother

In addition to the above, it may indicate responsibility for
    or dealings with
a parent who hasn't been in the picture for a while.
Often this is the time in your life when you first buy property.

If the Moon forms an aspect to a planet in the 9th house, you may undergo a long-distance move, even to a foreign country.

    Progressed Moon in Capricorn

As the progressed Moon moves from outgoing Sagittarius to reserved Capricorn, your emotions take on a more conventional cast. Concern for your status, your image, your honor may suddenly become important.

You are less inclined to take chances with your feelings and you become quite cautious in your dealings with or reaction to other people.

This passage may represent business dealings for you if the rest of your progressions support it.

How I begin to truly understand your contribution:

    What Are Tertiary Progressions
    by Rick Houck

Here is a beginning definition: If you understand what a secondary progression ("P2") is, where each day in the life is symbolically equated to to each subsequent year in the life, then just think of a tertiary progression ("P3") as being a simple variation on this, i.e., a day in the life (or ephemeris) is equal to a lunar month in the life (i.e. a little less than a calendar month).

Tertiary Progressions are a lunar-based technique. In various metaphysical sources it has often been suggested that 1,000 months of life may be one of the best standards of a good life span.
