Anyone have a WaterRower ?

I've decided against buying an elliptical machine because it just seems like a dumb idea, there are so many used ones and nobody really seems to recommend them anymore, a friend of mine recently sent me a video of his WaterRower and it looks pretty cool, when I saw how much it was I had a bit of sticker shock though.

Does anyone have one? I'm trying to gauge if it would be a useful addition to my home gym, it looks like a great workout for such a small analog machine. Is it noisy? Do you have any regrets in purchasing? I saw that they have a rental program for the original one

I tried the Water Rower before I bought my Concept 2. It's a nice looking machine (if you need to have it on view), the action is smooth and the sound of the water is pleasing. Unfortunately its display lacks the functionality of the Concept 2's and the Concept 2 feels a bit more durable for regular long-term use.

Incidentally, I've been using an elliptical for cardio every other day for three years now. If I could keep only one machine, the elliptical would be it.

Water rowers are a gimmick. I've tried one. I don't know any rowers who train with them.

If you want to a rowing machine that functions well but doesn't cost a lot buy a Concept 2 (C2) machine. If you are serious about rowing and want to develop skills on land, buy a C2 Dynamic or better still, buy a RowPerfect3 (RP3).
