Well, first of all, he's incredibly gorgeous. If other Jordanian gay guys are as good-looking as him that would be one of the top gay destinations on Earth.

But the article about him is kinda confusing regarding the current threat, and what needs to change. Jordan has always been rather Western leaning & modern, unlike some of its medieval neighbors. So I'm unclear about this.

Unless I'm mistaken, that photo is of Prince Hamzah of Jordan (one of Prince Hashim's elder brothers). The second photo in the article is indeed of Prince Hashim. Their mother, Dowager Queen Noor, was one of late King Hussein's later wives (unlike the Saudi kings, he married only one wife at a time). Noor was an American woman from a wealthy family, and she is of partly Lebanese ethnicity.

Well here's that pic, and it looks very similar. Brothers could be. And likewise gorgeous.

She is part of Syrian... Doesn't matter, Lebanese, Palestinian and Jordanians were all Syrians under the Romans and Ottoman empire.

Wow, what a story. Kudos to him for coming forward and taking on his own country's bigotry.
And I agree, he is totally adorable.

I didn't know that the Lebanese were part of this same Middle Eastern group. I thought that both the Lebanese and the Syrians were separate, distinct ethnic groups. Aren't the Iraqis part of this group as well?

They all share a common Levantine Semitic ancestry. Lebanese get their name from Mount Lebanon. Palestinians get their name from Palestine under the British Mandate. Jordanian get their name from Trans-Jordan. They all were part of the Greater Syria and Arab Kingdom of Syria in 1920. According to Syrian nationalist Antun Saadeh, Iraq was part of Syria.

The brothers are very similar, here in 2007:

Jordanian Prince Hamza bin Hussein (R) and his brother Prince Hashem bin Hussein (L) salute Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud (not seen) at the Maraka airport in the Jordanian capital Amman, 28 June 2007. Talks between Saudi King Abdullah and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas due to take place in Jordan on the crisis in Gaza were postponed for 'lack of time', a Palestinian official said today. Jordan and Saudi Arabia yesterday warned of 'dangerous repercussions' in the Palestinian territories after Hamas's armed takeover of Gaza, saying they would continue to back efforts to restore unity.

But "awdnews" is also reporting this:

    b0a132bb5489f11ee83f82e8b1e130fc-1471864
US Secret Service "swarms" top hospitals as Hillary Clinton brain surgery fears rise

While no one else on the net is saying anything of Hashim's alleged homosexuality.
(He and his wife have 4 children, 3 daughters and a son.)

    good catch, mwolverine.

Here's a snopes entry on another story from the OP's "source" of "news".

http://www.snopes.com/king-abdullah-ii-kills-queen-rania-in-rome/AWD News, the web site on which the story originated, doesn't have more than a nodding acquaintance with facts, instead playing on nationalistic fantasy and conspiracy theory to create alarming (and thus clickable and shareable) stories.

The Dowager Queen Noor was born Lisa Halaby in California to Najeeb (and Doris) Halaby, who was President Kennedy's head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Her marriage to King Hussein was a prominent May-December romance of the day and was quite a topic of the gossip set at the time. Upon her marriage she took the new name "Noor."

Seems a little odd that these two brothers (Hamza & Hashem) should be at the airport welcoming & saluting the late Saudi King Abdullah to Jordan. In 1925, Abdullah's father IbnSaud (who was then an Arabian Peninsula Emir) deposed the brothers' great-great grandfather Hussein, Grand Sharif of Mecca and forced him into exile. A few years later, IbnSaud proclaimed himself king of the newly-created kingdom of Saudi Arabia. But the airport photo was taken in 2007, and I guess that time heals all wounds.
