NYT: Officials want to test genetically modified mosquitoes built to blunt the spread of dengue and Zika , but many Key Haven residents fear the experiment more than viruses.

Probably not women thinking of having children. But maybe. A lot of stupid religion in the latin population and a lot of Republicans in the older population. As (I think) Neil deGrasse Tyson said, "Science is not a liberal conspiracy." But listening to Republican morons would make you think so.

"Republican morons" expresses it perfectly. But that may be good in this case. Hopefully they'll wipe themselves out with their ideologically-driven ignorance. I wouldn't lift a finger to help them. If they wanna ignore the techniques to protect themselves, of their own choice, fine.

I just would be concerned that they're denying protection for others, in this case using genetically modified mosquitos. And when they also withhold vaccinations for their children, on similar grounds, they expose other children to these illnesses. And in some cases adults, too.

Placing a drag on public medical care, rising shared costs. And if you block those unvacinnated kids from school they just get home-schooled, who get further dumbed-down and indoctrinated. Gotta love these Republicans!

Florida has a lot of retirees.

Who authorized use of poisonous herbicides such as Agent Orange in Vietnam: Democrat John F. Kennedy

Who promotes "Clean Energy" Solar Panels whose production byproduct is toxic cadmium: Democrat Barack Obama

Who signed the EPA into existence: Republican Richard Nixon

    Why is that stupid?

I don't want scientists fucking around with the genes of mosquitoes and releasing them into the population with no fucking hope of undoing any unforseen damage they might cause.

Mosquitoes might be among the last things on earth you want scientists fucking around with, flying needles? Are you kidding, and they're the stupid ones?

Republicans are dumb about most things but this is not dumb. They have no idea how these populations of mosquitoes are going to look in 20 years, no idea what will happen to the ones that don't die nor what will happen to the offspring of theirs 5000 generations later. What will this do to the genes of the bacteria and viruses that steal part of their DNA from the mosquitoes? They have no idea, because it is absolutely not something they could know unless they knew the DNA or RNA of every virus and bacteria that is going to live in and on these mosquitoes and what genes they are going to steal.

This is an epic bad idea that shit like this even goes on. And far scarier that the "science party" thinks that it's ok, because a few researchers tell them that it is ok. No it's totally not ok, they can't know that. And this isn't like releasing a pill, this is releasing a bug that bites people and is going to make more bugs that bite people because they aren't all going to die despite what they think.

This is like just starting a fire assuming it'll burn itself out because fires usually do.
