There was also a preacher from Tulsa, Oklahoma who got busted a few years ago (2006?) for soliciting guys in an Oklahoma City parking lot. Outside the Habana Inn, a so-called gay resort I've used myself whenever driving through OKC.
A bit seedy, it's converted from old motels, probably Ramada or Holiday Inn. Has the old-style outside balcony room entrances, which allow for a particular room cruising method through the picture windows. But also has a fair restaurant, a not-bad disco with go-go dancers, and even a gift shop.
In any case, this preacher was sitting in his car in their public parking lot, hoping to attract one of the guys coming & going. Bad tactic. With his car already there he should have just gone inside, at least to the disco or restaurant.
Instead he unwittingly tried to score with an undercover cop. OPPPS!!!
Turns out he just wasn't some small-time Baptist preacher, but associated with a Tulsa mega-church. And on the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant group in the US. And so therefore he was nationally known. Double OPPPS!!! Oh, and he was known for his homophobic crusades. Triple OPPPS!!!
The news was mostly downplayed, but he was out of a job. At least he wasn't after minors, but the OKC cops got him on some kind of soliciting prostitution or lewdness charge, one of those "John" laws. With another "John". LOL!
BTW, I think he beat the charge in a non-jury trial, on the basis of faulty evidence. But he still lost his reputation & career, to my knowledge.
