    Shit happens.

Could just as easily be robbed by a taxi driver - less common, but it happens.

I have found Uber to be completely safe and reliable. The drivers I've had were friendly, well educated people. Many are college students looking to make a little easy cash.

Of course you're always responsible for assessing the situation. If someone seemed sketchy, I wouldn't get in his car.

I've even used Uber in Rio, where it's considered to be safer than taking a taxi.

I lost a phone once when I drove myself too. Stuff happens. My experiences have all been pleasant; granted I've only used it a hand full of times.

I Uber a lot because I hate driving in traffic. I understand from my conversations with several Uber drivers that Uber has a very rigorous background investigation process. Of course no matter how rigorous the background checks maybe, they rarely, if ever, uncover psychological issues. So, there's always that possibility that your Uber driver may be mentally unstable.

I use uber a lot and never had a problem. I travel a lot and each airport I've been to whether it's Vegas, LA, Seattle or Boston, I always take uber. I won't use a taxi again as long as uber is around.

I started the process to get approved for driving for them. They cover themselves legally where you have to provide your driving certifications and insurance, then get a very basic vehicle inspection... but as far as the driver? No background check or anything. You really could be getting anyone that has a safe car.

So while I think most people are good people... you never really know what you'll get. At least a taxi company might require a background check or something?

I've used Uber here in Chattanooga, as well as in Fort Lauderdale and my brother, who flies with Southwest, uses Uber constantly to get around cities he is in. I can speak for both of us when I say we have had excellent experiences with the Uber drivers.

Assaults, rape, muggings and murders have been committed in Taxi cabs for decades and suddenly you're surprised to see the same thing happening in an Uber? Dude.....life is dangerous and none of us is getting out of here alive, so why sweat shit like this? You have as good a chance of being struck by lightening.
