I think there should be some sort of independent monitoring... especially in Chicago. Unfortunately I don't think any federal government bureaucracy is neutral on this topic. icon_lol.gif

    Tha articles are misleading.

Homeland security already considers the financial sector and the electrical grid to be critical infrastructure, but it hasn't "taken over" those. Federal oversight takes many forms including the Voting Rights Act. In the video, Jeh Johnson refers to sharing best practices and providing resources, which is hardly a takeover. The department's authority is limited.

Is it a highly capable department? No. But plenty has already gone wrong with the current system (election 2000!) and it is equally easy to imagine worse under it.

So, Homeland Security, which is essentially a developing latter-day Gestapo, and already controls Wall Street and the power grids in the US, will now "oversee" elections.

    Well...ISN'T THAT SPECIAL!

Of course Homeland Security wants control of elections.

Democrats want government control of everything including:

    your money
    your freespeech
    your healthcare
    your diet
    your mind.

Is that like Republicans, who want to control:

your body if you're a woman
    your sexual practices
    your sexual orientation
    your freedom of marriage
    your choice of sex partner
    your privacy
    your voting rights
your child's education to add religious doctrine
    your access to health care
    your Social Security

And BTW, Homeland Security and the Patriot Act were authored by a Republican Administration and Congress. If DHS has become a Frankenstein monster, then blame the Republican Dr. Frankensteins in Washington who created it, and who won't allow it to be significantly amended.

FYI.....DHS is now run by an Obama appointee.

Can you show me a correlation between how much sex people have and who's president? I had more and better sex in Republican Texas than in Democrat California, and the gay clubs in Dallas and Houston were better than San Francisco amd LA. So I don't understand how politicians "control" my sex life.

Funny you didn't ask that question of mx5guynj, about what he claims Democrats want. And I never mentioned the President in doing my list. It mirrored the format of mx5guynj. I only mentioned the Republican Administration in terms of Homeland Security, another of mx5guynj's points.

And for YOUR information, the Secretary of Homeland Security has to follow the law as written. If he didn't the Republicans in Congress would go ballistic, and be screaming for his removal.

Regarding gay sex in Texas, if you had it prior to the US Supreme Court overturning the existing law in that State then you risked going to jail. As in fact happened to some gay men. And Texas Republicans, plus quite a few national Republicans, want to overturn that decision. And turn back the clock to make gay sex acts a criminal offense once again.

And if making gay sex a prosecutable crime isn't an attempt to control your sex life then you'll have to provide me with a better definition of controlling. Because it sure as Hell sounds like controlling to me. As is preventing LGBT from having same-sex marriages, and engaging in sex acts declared to be illegal. For instance, anal and blowjobs.

Which are still on the criminal books in many places, with Republicans refusing to remove them, in hopes of "better times" with a Republican President and Senate that will put extreme Right Wingers on the US Supreme Court to decide these matters.
