Certain goods and services are “free” to the citizenry. The costs of socialism are more subtle. Books have been written detailing these problems, but reading them takes time away from Facebook postings. So, for young readers who want to learn a little about socialism while having a few laughs, Hollywood offers the brilliant 1939 movie Ninotchka, the wittiest and most popular movie send up of socialism ever done.

Some lessons of history need to be re-learned.

I recall reading many years ago, about an American Socalist community, way back when. It failed miserably.

Freudian slip? RJ's American Socalist community (Socal and Southbeach being its most prominent members) is alive and well, even though they haven't been posting under their own profiles since they took up Trump trolling for a living. Doubtless they'll return (under their familiar handles) after Christmas to start bitching about President H.R. Clinton.

The fabulous Garbo! The moniker for this movie was "Garbo laughs". It is one of the funniest, witty movies ever. Definitely on a top ten list!

It's a funny movie but socialism is not . Between Stalin and Mao around 100,000,000 were murdered for that perverted ideal. Socialism promises everything to everybody but ends up as a blood bath for all.

Yeah it sort of works that way. I remember GUM store in Moscow in the 1980s... A store full of empty shelves.
