Conservative Activist Phyllis Schlafly Dead At 92
Schlafly was instrumental in the defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment.

" She also argued that it would lead to same-sex marriage and government funding for abortions, both of which she fiercely opposed, despite having a gay son."

Good. Nasty old bitch. Nasty young bitch once. I had the displeasure to meet her about 20 years ago. She was hateful to everyone around her and we weren't even in any kind of political setting. She was awful. The good news is another ugly Republican dead.

Everything you are offended her. When did the self-loathing start with you?

I had the opposite experience, the pleasure of dinner with her arch-nemesis Sarah Weddington, in town for their roadshow debate. What a smart lady. I dislike Schlafly nearly as much as that bitch Anita. Those two caused so much pain for our Gay community that "winding up" seated next to Sarah (I forget exactly how but I think we'd been chatting on our way in), I just stole her from everyone for most of the evening; we got along great, lots of laughs.

Usually it's a little weird to hear of a known name dying, someone who for instance maybe you didn't know yet enjoyed their entertainment for much of your life. The loss makes life seem a little less familiar. Who are these new people on TV; I have no idea. But, man, it's good to every so often find advantage to this aging crap: to have outlived some Republican scum.

Getting to dance on Phyllis's grave makes arthritis worthwhile.

I was hoping that she would still be alive so that she could help Trump like she helped Goldwater as remembered by the NYT: "She gave critical support to the presidential ambitions of Senator Barry Goldwater, the hard-right Arizonan who went on to lead the Republican Party to electoral disaster in 1964."

Her son John gained attention in 1992 when a gay activist revealed that he was homosexual. Mrs. Schlafly said she considered the disclosure a deliberate attempt to embarrass her. The revelation did not alter her disapproval of gay marriage. In 2010, she said of gay couples: “Nobody’s stopping them from shacking up. The problem is that they are trying to make us respect them, and that’s an interference with what we believe.”

lol And true about the loss of familiarity. I find these days I have to ask my guy to define words like "shade" and offer examples of proper usage. But that's OK. I can offer him an example of when to defy trends and define personal style. lol
