US hands internet control to ICANN

The long-planned turnover takes place, but not before triggering an outcry from critics.

I can't believe we're doing that, if true. And to communist CHINA? We created the damn thing!

And its freedom of communication & expressios, which China and other dictarorships have suppressed in their own countries, is one of the things that has led to the spread of democracy and human rights in many parts of the world.

We want that to stop? And our own Internet freedom to be restricted? Not to mention concerns about our personal privacy & security.

Wall St Journal, Alex Jones reported on this last month.

Obama pushed this because (like Hillary) he is a globalist........new world order, where elites like George Soros play countries off each other...gain power at the expense of the citizens who can't globe trot. That's what BREXIT was about. That's what Donald Trump and this election are about.

Donald Trump is all about Donald Trump. That is abundantly clear in anything he has ever said or done.

I'm not sure Trump can get his brain around this issue. Far too technical and complex.

But if he perceives a political advantage with his base to take a particular position he'll jump on it. Having no idea what it means, other than it may mean increased popularity and votes for himself.

Trump called on congress to block it. Ted Cruze is spearheading a movement to block it.

Obama is pushing for it. But thank you for coming out to oppose it. Good to know we don't disagree on everything. Maybe you and me and Southbeach1500 (if he ever returns) can celebrate its defeat over a glass of wine.

I do oppose it, based on what I've heard so far. If anyone can make a good argument for this proposal I could consider it.

I actually tend to be very pragmatic, and think for myself. The fact that President Obama supports it does not alone persuade me. I need to hear the reasoning on issues from both sides.

I think it also comes down to that you and I are not globalists. There's a political realignment developing along that faultline. And it's growing.

Obama, Clinton, Bush and many in both parties are globalists.. They willingly give away our power - assets that affect our national security and standard of living. Ditto for the terrible trade deals.

I'm still not sure what that term means, in all its applications. Is it the opposite of xenophobia?

Trump wants to "close up the inter net"
"We're losing a lot of people because of the Internet," Trump said. "We have to go see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what's happening. We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that Internet up in some way. Somebody will say, 'Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech. These are foolish people"

I've been without utilities, communication and shopping for weeks after both hurricane Irene in 2011 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012. I had to stand guard at my house without the availability of police, fire, ambulance protection from the town, communications, electricity, gasoline, natural gas and drinkable tap water. Houses around me and even the church were burglarized. A few first responders even looted stores. Since hurricane Irene, I stock a month of supplies, have
off grid solar power, fire extinguishers in every room, medical supplies, a short wave radio, pepper spray, and a cross bow.

Since communications and critical infrastructure such as utilities, purchasing and banking are dependent on the internet, giving up internet control is likely Obama's biggest mistake.

Look in the mirror Liberals, you voted for this:

On Sept 30, 2016 our internet will be transferred. Unless you say No.

If you agree that keeping our internet free and open is important, if you enjoy the ability to search and access uncensored websites and media, PLEASE Contact your Congressman, your state legislators, Dept. of Commerce and ask them to NOT transfer internet authority to ICANN. Ask them to stop this transfer and instead hold public town halls, get public input, and include enforceable penalties for abuse, create adequate guard rails that would ensure freedom of speech and protect internet privacy and security.

    U.S. Dept of Commerce: (202) 482-2000

Contact Commerce Leadership with your comment
U.S. Commerce Dept. on twitter: @CommerceGov
Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker on Twitter: @PennyPritzker
Contact info for your elected legislators:

U.S. Senators in Washington DC – Get contact information for your senators in the U.S. Senate.
U.S. Representatives in Washington DC – Find the website and contact information for your representative in the U.S. House of Representatives.
State Legislators – Find the names and current activities of your state legislators.

I'd say globalism means open borders.

But the devil is in the details. For example, any talk of immigration laws in this country gets you labeled a xenophobe, but Germany, Norway, etc. have much tougher immigration laws and nobody calls them xenophobes. Ditto for trade. If we insist on following the same trade policies as other countries.....we get accused of being "protectionist" and "starting a trade war."

Behind all this nonsense is the media/government/ wall st. establishment creating this narrative. Obviously, we can shop the world market like multinationals can.

I wasn't aware people who cite freedom of speech were foolish people, Mr. Trump. Possibly in some cases misinterpreting, misapplying, or stretching the concept might be wrong, but not in this case, I think.

And Trump wants to be the President and chief defender of our constitutional rights? He appears to not even know or respect what those rights we have actually are. icon_eek.gif
