I wonder how it works. Why would it not work to deliver power to anything? A lamp. Laptop. Anyone know?

"Inductive power transfer uses magnetic fields to transfer energy from a transmitting coil in the Parking Pad to a receiving coil in the Vehicle Adapter, which converts this energy into electrical current to charge your EV. Once the system is installed and paired to your vehicle, you simply pull into your garage or parking space and the system automatically begins recharging your EV."

Induction, an oscillating magnetic field creates a current in a coil in the car. Same way an electric toothbrush gets charged, or some mobile phones.
Damn, Metta beat me to it, I was checking I wasn't writing bollocks. :-)

Seems like it would have to be less efficient than a direct plug, therefore wasting some % of power plus slower. I guess the alternating magnetic fields have to be fairly well aligned for it to work at all, limiting its applications. Just guessing here...

there is a fair amount of current necessary to charge the batteries and this kills the power connector in short order. everyone wants a paper thin portable device and connectors are just in the way.
