NYT: The Arizona Republic endorses Hillary Clinton on Tuesday. The newspaper, founded in 1890, had never endorsed a Democrat over a Republican for president.

The newspaper is not the first this year to break with its long tradition of endorsing Republicans for president. The Dallas Morning News, which had not supported a Democrat for president since before World War II, and The Cincinnati Enquirer, which has endorsed Republicans for nearly 100 years, have backed Mrs. Clinton. The Houston Chronicle, which has in the past endorsed a Democrat for president but which typically supports Republicans, eschewed Mr. Trump in July, long before endorsements are generally published in an election year.

^^^ Typical liberal "thinking" by proxy.

Maybe it's because Hillary Clinton supported DOMA and DADT, while Donald Trump was hiring gay employees and speaking in favor of gays.

http://www.npr.org/2016/09/24/495306873/newspaper-endorsements-matter-most-when-theyre-unexpectedThe New York Times editorial board endorsed Hillary Clinton for president on Saturday, saying their reasoning was "rooted in respect for her intellect, experience and courage."

"The best case for Hillary Clinton cannot be, and is not, that she isn't Donald Trump," the board wrote, before citing its reasons why Clinton is better suited to the presidency than her opponent.

The endorsement is not exactly surprising. The editorial board at The New York Times has not endorsed a Republican presidential candidate since President Eisenhower in 1956.

What is surprising? Some of the Times' company this election year.

Several newspaper editorial boards that have traditionally, some almost faithfully, gone for the Republican candidate have endorsed the Democratic nominee this time around.

In its first Democratic endorsement in a century, The Cincinnati Enquirer endorsed Clinton on Friday. The last Democrat the board supported was Woodrow Wilson in 1916....

The Dallas Morning News also endorsed Clinton in early September.

"This newspaper has not recommended a Democrat for the nation's highest office since before World War II — if you're counting, that's more than 75 years and nearly 20 elections," the board wrote....

...In 2008, nearly seven in ten Americans participating in a Pew Research Center survey said that their local newspaper's endorsement had no effect on who they voted for, regardless of who the paper picked. The rest were split between saying it made them more likely and less likely to support a candidate.

But a 2011 study pointed out one scenario where a newspaper editorial board may make a difference: when a newspaper bucks its own tradition.

In that study, Democratic endorsements from conservative papers seemed to have more influence than a Republican endorsement from that paper would, and the same concept applied to left-leaning papers endorsing conservative candidates....

Between her and Donald, there really isn't a choice, if you take out all the emotion. I'm no fan of hers and I find her to be incredibly untrustworthy but I don't feel that she is dangerous if elected. She's not transformational but nothing radical will happen under her watch for the next 4 years. I voted for Donald in the Texas primary because I loved that he was an outsider and I wanted to hear more of his ideas. Now that I have heard more of his ideas, I recognize that there are a dozen other things more important to me than having an outsider in the whitehouse. I can definitely understand people not wanting Hillary in the Whitehouse. But not at the expense of the country.

Yeah, the hint is she is a neo republican. She was a Goldwater Girl to start out and still is. There is nothing radical liberal or progressive about her.

I've lived here for 13 years and rarely read the AZ Republic? Regardless, anyone in the media NOT endorsing Trump probably only helps Trump. He has successfully campaigned that "the media is the enemy", so I do not think these endorsements will help or hurt either candidate

"THE EVIL MEDIA" has now become any public entity who doesn't bend over and praise Herr Trump.

Trumpsters can start hating the USAToday editorial board now:

"He is erratic. Trump has been on so many sides of so many issues that attempting to assess his policy positions is like shooting at a moving target. A list prepared by NBC details 124 shifts by Trump on 20 major issues since shortly before he entered the race.

He simply spouts slogans and outcomes (he’d replace Obamacare with “something terrific”) without any credible explanations of how he’d achieve them."

Regardless of what you think of she, her, Hillary, in adhering to its own values forcing it to break its tradition of endorsing Republicans for the past nearly century and a half, the Detroit News has instead endorsed Gary. You might want to rethink that hint while reflecting upon your own integrity.
