Where in the US can you live that does not have some disaster risk? I do think we should stop building in areas that we know will be underwater in the future due to the Oceans rising, without a realistic plan to deal with it.
Republican Gov. Scott has forbidden State agencies from discussing, or even saying the words global warming and rising ocean levels. Therefore they don't exist and do not affect Florida. I guess that's one way of dealing with the problem.
Reminds me of the people who whine, "But my lending institution didn't require me to have flood insurance" or "I'm not in a floodplain" or "this area hasn't flooded in 50 years." People need to take responsibility for themselves and stop putting the blame on someone else. If your ass lives in a coastal area or floodplain or other low lying area (even in the heartland), you need flood insurance. If you can't afford insurance, you can't afford to own property, no matter what your Republican or Democrat politician says or doesn't say.
