Locker room talk

Trump's excuse that it's just "locker room talk" has made me think of all the crude talk I've heard over the years in locker rooms. What sticks out to me is not so much the language itself, but the thrust of it.

When I hear straight guys talk about their conquests, they always make it sound like women can't wait to get in their pants. Like, she was all over me, and eventually I gave in and took her home. But I've never heard anyone bragging about being rejected, and then having to resort to taking her by force. That would run counter to the narrative of being irresistible.

It sounds more like Trump is actually proud of being that creepy guy in the sauna or at the bar who can't keep his hands to himself. Until now, I never thought anyone could actually be proud of that.

Interesting and insightful analysis. I had not considered the sort of "locker room" talk that I've heard over the years, which by the way was not limited to locker rooms. I worked construction through high school and college. Most of the guys I worked with were eager to talk about their sexual conquests, or sexual intentions, with women. It was mostly bravado, and as you say, always involved the guys portraying the women as eager to have them. I cannot recall a single instance in which one of guys bragged about taking a woman by force. Incidentally, there was also a lot of homoerotic kidding around by these same guys that was at times titillating, and at other times truly confusing, for a closeted teenager.

I've heard locker room talk, and similar talk elsewhere by men. And I thought it was offensive & unacceptable at times. Not to mention that sometimes is was also about gays. I never participated in any of it. My parents did not raise me to be a bigot (thanks Mom & Dad).

There is an excellent example of locker room talk, from the steam room scene in the movie "Philadelphia". I can't find a clip for it to post here.

Tom Hanks is in a men's health club steam room with his business partners. Their boss tells a dreadful "joke" about gay men. And gay Hanks, having just been promoted to the top echelon of his legal profession with a premier law firm, merely grins and lets it pass. A situation perhaps many of us have faced, one way or the other.

Yes, Donald, locker room talk is always excusable in your world. Except, I wonder, were you in a locker room when you made those public comments? Or when you made all your other anti-female comments, right in front of the TV camera? No need to list them, they're too well known, and recorded. Not private stuff in some unknown men's locker room.

Straight men love to do this. They do this to either demonstrate to other men how irresistible they are to women or that they have the power to take what they want. In either case it's all about making one's self look more studly and powerful among other men.

Sure, it's wrong. But I've been in situations where women and some men have groped my genitals or grabbed my body in a sexually lewd and inappropriate manner in public. Do I now get my chance to character assassinate these individuals years after the fact that it happened?

Which lends me to asking my final question; why didn't these females come out and file charges within timely manner? It's obvious the Democratic party is grasping at anything from Trump's ten year past to sway voters in their favor.

OIC. It's wrong for Bill Clinton to allegedly do it, yet if The Donald does it he gets a pass. With the excusing "But..." icon_rolleyes.gif

As to the issue of "timely matter", how come it's OK for The Donald to parade these women at his campaign appearances who've now suddenly charged Bill Clinton years later? They didn't do so in a timely matter, either.

    Double standard, anyone?

Donald is sinking faster than the Titanic, and we all know it. Nothing could please me more. icon_biggrin.gif

Many of Trump's supporters are those who lost their jobs due to Liberal Democrat policies in Trade, Toxic Green Energy, Illegal Immigration, H1N1 Visas and now STEM Greencards.

I have a better unproven theory for you: many of Trump's followers are too stupid, untrained or lazy to hold a job. Cheering their hero who's gonna make America great again while he's making China greater right now by manufacturing the Trump apparel over there that these idiots wear.

But I can understand if the foreign workers Trump employs at his US resort would have reason to cheer him. (I guess you would contend they aren't depriving any US citizens of work) Or the NYC actors hired to applaud Trump when he began his campaign with that grand escalator entrance in the Trump Tower.

Followers are easy to have when you pay them, or you bribe them with phony promises.

And BTW, what's an example of "Toxic" Green Energy? As compared to polluting, cancer-causing, green house gas-producing fossil fuel energy? Also, one of our friends has a Green Card, while he applies for citizenship. And works hard on a business he created in our town, that employs dozens of US workers. He hasn't deprived anyone of a job, but rather has given work to citizens who might otherwise be unemployed.

But you go right ahead with your wild fantasies, and live in the paranoid world that people like the Breitbart News have created for you. In 3 weeks your absurd claims will be proven even more pathetically false than they are today.

My parents did not raise me to be a bigot (thanks Mom & Dad).

Nope. Not a bigot, just a big fat snob who thinks he's above everyone else.

I'd love to go back into time to meet the Lovey and Thurston Howell III that raised you. Those two had to be two of the whitest, tightest assed, country club, pearl-clasping WASPs to have ever graced the planet.

No wonder you like Killery; you and she have contempt for those you deem beneath you. You're a hilarious cartoonish joke of a human being.

I'm obliged to defend my parents, against the likes of you.

You do know they were Republicans, that I've mentioned here before? Both of them elected office holders in the 1950s & '60s. Kinda radical for my Mother to hold office back then.

But then their focus was more local politics, and I hadda agree with them that our town Democrats at that time were crooks. All politics are local, as the saying goes.

They were a different breed of Republicans, before this evangelical Christian and Teabagger lunacy took over the national Party. And actually quite liberal for their day, as we would use the term now. Their example showed me respect for race & gender. My own Mother's career taught me to respect women and their rights.

So that when the big women's rights movement came along in the 1960s I was puzzled. Don't all women already have equal rights? No, Bob, most women are not like your exceptional Mother. I was naive in the extreme.

Oh, and BTW, we weren't WASPS. All Catholics. Did you not read about my attending a Catholic Jesuit prep school? Maybe you can substitute some slam for Catholics in place of WASPs. You seem to be good at this sort of prejudice.

You've already insulted WASPs, so next you can do Catholics. And there's always Jews, as well. Quite a list for you to work on.

If you're not American, then you shouldn't be concerned about American politics, You should invest your time in Canadian politics since that's where you live, or Cuban politics since because i know your country has lot's of issues already. But you, and other non-Americans shouldn't be worrying about their elections, politics, and issues. The only country you need to worry about is the country you live in.

When I was a preppy, I was subjected to sexual harassment by my roommate. He even attempted to get me to give him a "blow job". I didn't report it. He had been put into a position of some responsibility by the headmaster and I feared that if I reported it I would not be believed. He might have accused me of attacking him. Moreover, I feared that I would be attacked by my roommate's friends.

One time, when I was bullied by someone else at the same prep boarding school, I slugged him. Unfortunately, I cut my knuckles on his teeth and had to see the school nurse for first aid; she blamed me!

It is common for victims of various kinds of abuse not to report it. Often they have very good reasons for not reporting it.
