Trump followers can argue that NBC is liberal and lying, part of of a big paranoid conspiracy they imagine. But what about that bastion of capitalism, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ)? Owned by Rupert Murdock. If you wanna call Murdock a liberal tool of Hillary Clinton go right ahead, but I don't think you're gonna get very far with that.

No, Trump is cooked, kaput, dead in the water. The most perverse & disgraceful insult to our US democracy in our history is thankfully coming to an end.

But we all must still bear the shame that something like a Trump ever got this far, to stain our admirable democracy. Hopefully that our inner reflection, even penance after November 8th, will show to the world that we're made of better stuff than Trump and his demented followers.

I'm not sure what a "swong" is, and in combination with "match". Is it possible you meant to say: "Polls have not swung that much"? Reading your posts reminds me of correcting the work of my middle schoolers, when I was student teaching.

But the Trump followers (I don't wanna call you a US Republican, since as an Australian you can't vote here) are quick to cite polls showing Trump leading Clinton.

In fact, I believe you've done that yourself. But apparently a really reputable poll does not count in your book. Only any kind of biased poll that shows Trump in the lead.

Well, we'll see on November 8th, when we Americans vote. And hopefully not too many pro-Trump Russian hackers will be involved.

But I'm pretty confident you will not be involved yourself. My husband & I will, almost certainly voting early. While you will be voting zip in our election from Australia. But do keep us informed how the imaginary vote tally there goes that you'll be keeping.

And let us know how one of your 2 polygamous husbands votes, the one who's a US citizen, or was, or who the Hell knows what he is. Or is it yourself who's the expatriate American? It gets too confusing. icon_confused.gif

That's one poll. Others are much tighter. More importantly, many of the swing states are neck and neck, with Trump leading by 4 points in Ohio. With all that has been dropped on Trump the past 2 weeks, the idea that he is anywhere near competitive in ANY state is pretty incredible. Granted, the "trend" does appear moving in HRC's direction, but this election has been so utterly unpredictable that anyone getting too ahead of themselves or too comfy would be ill-advised. It ain't over till it's over --- and that holds especially true THIS election.

What Trump and Putin work together, vs Mrs Clitoris picking a fight with Russia, and starting a war. Oh little man.

everyone is so enamored with all these polls - makes me wonder whats in it for the pollsters??? i dont recall EVER in my life so many polls and seems to get worse with each cycle

is there an ulterior motive for all these polls?? psychological perhaps? it mystifies me and, in my mind, cheapens our democracy if thats possible

polls mean nothing if the people being polled dont vote - and, in this election, there sure aint much to vote for.....

First of all, polling is far less reliable today than it was even twenty years ago. I won't explain the reasons why today but I'll point out the recent Brexit referendum and the last provincial election in British Columbia as examples where recent widespread polling failed.

Secondly, national polls are irrelevant in terms of upcoming election. Most states are clearly and solidly "safe" for one or another party and consequently the race will come down to a few "purple" states. For example, I don't think we need too much polling to surprise California will be a safe bet for Clinton.

    The race is still on....

Do you not remember just 4 years ago when you were all so sure Romney was going to win?

People a lot smarter than you were telling you that the race was over 4 weeks out. But you had all these stupid reasons for why they were lying and now you're doing the exact same thing again 4 years later, except even more people smarter than you are telling you that the race is over unless there is some gigantic miracle, like everyone learning Hillary secretly proposed to marry Bin Laden.

I know you aren't good with logic and reason, that's why you support Trump and are Republicans to begin with, but do you ever get tired of being wrong? I guess you can't get tired of something you aren't aware of....

But you idiots really thought Romney was going to win. You were so sure of it.

Why can't you just admit you don't really know much about anything and for whatever reason you like the red team, you aren't sure why but you believe it has something to do with freedom and banking but you can't exactly explain it. I'll accept that.

But please stop being so damn stupid, it's annoying.

I think it's sort of entertaining, in a perverse sort of way.

The older I get the more I realize that there are a lot of stupid people here in the US. I can understand people voting for Trump because he's the Republican candidate, or they hate Hillary, but that so many actually believe that he'd make a good president or a better one than Hillary simply boggles the mind.

Since the popular vote doesn't elect the president, national polls aren't that useful.
While they look close, the state-by-state break down and electoral votes tell a different story.
Looks like Hillary is going to get 336.5 ± 8 electoral votes.
The means Trump ends up with around 200.
    (What's the definition of landslide?)

So why does everyone pretend it's a tight race?
Because that's in everyone's mutual interest.

Hilary wants you to think it's close so you actually get to the polling booth and make it so (~336).
Trump wants you to think it's close so his followers (the non-zany ones) don't give up and he has an even worse showing.
The media wants you to think it's close so you stay glued to their reports (and advertisements).

Ohio: Hillary with a 2% lead has a 64% chance of taking the state and 18 votes.
Penn: Hillary with an 8% lead has a 91% chance of taking the state and 20 votes.
NC: Hillary with a 3.5% lead has a 73% chance of getting 15 votes.
FL: Hillary with a 4% lead has a 75% chance of getting 29 votes.
NV: More of the same (6 votes).

What's close is Arizona (11 votes), and Iowa (6 votes), where Hillary has a 1% lead and 55% chance.
That's nowhere near enough, even if they flip to Trump.

    That's tautological and meaningless.
    Keyword being "may".
    I may win the lottery.
Pigs may be able to fly.

Granted, Trump's chances may be a bit better. (1/8 )
