NYT: Jarmila Kratochvilova ran 800 meters in 1 minute 53.28 seconds in 1983, a mark that could be erased by a proposal to void all world records set before 2005.

I scanned over this lengthy article. Does "all records set before 2005" include Jesse Owens from the 1936 Berlin Olympics? The earlier 1924 British wins, the basis for the movie "Chariots of Fire"?

No. His records were the records of his day, but they are by no means the mark to beat today. They are referring to current world records that were set when testing for PEDs was not as "rigorous as it is supposed to be today. Records such as Kratochvilova's in the 800 and 400M as well as Flo-jo's in the 100M and 200M. Usain Bolt's records in the 100M and 200M will not be touched.

I agree with this stance of adjusting records.

If they screw with Owens I was going to be annoyed.

I was going to say something so nasty it couldn't be repeated in front of women children and men of good breeding.

So, basically you are guilty by association. If they do this, they need to cancel every Tour de France winner off the books too - they've known about cheating for years, and even when they address it, they don't test the 2nd place they give the award to, because they'd be forced to run out of cyclists before giving away the trophy....

Pretty impressive basket for a "chick". Was she using the rolled sock trick?

Yeah, I did a double take on that myself, and then looked up more images as well as her Wiki page to be sure it was her.

She ain't like no chick I ever met - her delts and pecs put most guys on this site to shame - but according to the IAAF, she's a chick.

This proposal affects athletics. Cycling will have to clean its own house.

If you want to watch a great documentary on PEDs in amateur sports, watch "The Last Gold" about the East Germans vs. USA in 1976 Olympics in Calgary. I have met an American swimmer from that Olympics when East Germany came out of nowhere to dominate. It is such an eye opener. Same as Sochi which is now becoming a quagmire of who was doping and who wasn't . I grew up loving the Olympics. Now I don't bother to watch at all. It is about best chemist and who can hide doping.

Shirley Babishoff should have won 8 golds. Best swimmer in the world at the time. She got one..
