This morning I woke up with a tickle in my throat and have been a little congested. Sometimes this is because of the weather or because of something else. I rarely get sick, and when I feel like I might be I concentrate my energy to removing the sickness. I try to visualize my white blood cells and try to mentally prepare my body to fight. I've found this has worked in the past, have any of you tried it?

I already feel a little better. Send me positive vibrations to help the process. What do you guys think about the mental physical connection between healing and illness?

    "concentrate your energy"? Huh?

No my dear, it sounds like new age balderdash. And it also sounds like a very common case of confirmation bias.

I dunno, I read something in one of my psy books that a positive mental state can really help healing. I also heard this story about some kid with cancer who imagined airplanes or something were fighting the cancer and he got better after he was expected to get worse.

My witch friend from New Orleans said to wear and surround myself with the color green because it promotes healing, so for good measure I've been doing that to.

There is nothing wrong with positive thinking. And yes it does help alleviate the stress and depression that usually makes healing slower and or the immune system less effective. Read about psycho/hypnotherapy or placebos.

However, it is this statement that kinda... er... raise eyebrows. icon_neutral.gif

Speaking of positive mental states, there are Chud meditation practice for the tibetan buddhists where they get to move decaying corpses as well as those with infectious diseases. Their internal fortitude is so strong, that they do not get sick while helping those that are extremely infectious. Just wanted to pass that along.

There must be a connection between mental state and physical illness...for example, I have always found that getting a cold seems to be easier when I feel unhappy about something. May sound irrational but that is my experience.

I think we tend to always assume that the body comes prior to the mind. I.e. the body arrives first and then the mind appears. But we haven't really investigated the nature of the mind. Some traditions/philosophical systems suggest that the body happens in the Mind (eg vedanta hinduism). If our reality is something infinitely more subtle than the body, perhaps it is possible to influence the body through the instrumentality of thought...I claim to be no expert here though!!
