...Of course I knew he was lying, anytime he goes into a supermarket. We got a cart full of crap. Lots of perishables, that I thought he agreed we'd avoid, because of continuing scattered power outages, that have been striking this area following Irma But trying to argue with him when he wants food is like trying to take a bone away from a bulldog.

He bribed me with some Dunegeness crab we'll have tonight. (Provided we have power) And in the meantime some hearts of palm as a treat. Dipped in authentic balsamic vinegar, from Modena, Italy. He knows how to destroy my resistance. icon_redface.gif

Guys here know my stories about my catching Dungeness crab near Dungeness Bay, north of the Puget Sound at Seattle. My favorite crab. He knows my weaknesses, damn him! And damn me, for having them. icon_sad.gif

So he got his cartload of groceries. But it better well not get thrown out if the power fails again. I told him it's dinner right after 5, I don't wanna press our luck.

Plooje, roadbikeRob, and two_meninlove - if you have nothing nice to say in this thread, go spread your malice elsewhere. This is his thread. You're just hijacking it.

I have no idea if kiko82 is "Mr. Goody Goody two shoes! " or nor (although my guess is that he is - which is a good thing) but I applaud him for standing up to the bullies here who have nothing better to do than to tear people down. It's so refreshing to see simple decency rather than hatred.

I saw this thread pop up again. We did have the Dungeness crab, it was heavenly. (He always wants to pronounce it "dungeon" crab. That gives me an image of these crab chained to stone walls in some dark medieval dungeon)

Power went out again that day and next. For several hours, and of course you don't know how long it's gonna be. Hours, days? Some of our neighbors went without electricity for another week after we regained ours. We still haven't put all our hurricane supplies away, we're not out of the season yet.

But he's begun rebuilding his patio herb garden, that he does every Fall after the hot summer that kills many of his plants. And this summer saw record heat.

Well, he did it again. We went shopping today for food we need for this Sunday's brunch we're having here. I thought we were just out of a few things. Apparently not.

The bill came to $300! And then he told ME to pay it! Well I did; what am I gonna do - start a fight in the checkout line?

But I admit, I contributed to the problem. I wanted thin strips of Italian prosciutto, of a width similar to bacon. Those aren't cheap. That I wrap around sliced hearts of palm, marinated in authentic balsamic vinegar from Modeno, Italy, not cheap, either. My own creation, used as little finger foods. To accompany all the other little treats we'll have.

And then he said one guest drinks only Chardonnay. And another only Pinot Grigio. So we had to get bottles of those, too. Even though I already had champagne to make Mimosas, or just plain champagne, and all the fixings for Bloody Marys using my own blend, typical brunch drinks. And orange juice if they want Screwdrivers, or just plain juice. Not to mention every kind of flavored coffee, as they wish. And other alcoholic drinks if they want.

And so it went. Everytime I thought we had covered all the bases, another base popped up. Yet even so, I think we're neglecting deserts. Something sweet as a finish. I'm thinking cookies or some pastry, and cheesecake. I can make that happen tomorrow (Sat), if he agrees.

But damn! Having friends over for a meal, even a Sunday brunch, is a major undertaking!

    Nothing Deco's never done before.
    Remember Deco set the bar.
Sad the old girl, couldn't get it any higher, than a snakes belly.
