Now We've Both Had Our Annual Flu Shots

I got mine over a month ago, surprised they were already available. He had to wait until he'd been off his post-surgery antibiotics for a while. Today was the day.

Free, quick & easy. We each even got a $10 gift certificate for having shots. I joked with the staff, paraphrasing "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert": You can make a fine living, going around the county getting flu shots.

But we really do believe in getting them. And at our ages (we get a stronger senior's dose, yet still experience no negative side effects), contracting the flu could be an extremely serious, even deadly matter. Or merely pure misery for us and those younger.

We have fights on RJ about this topic every year, but I remain an avid supporter of flu shots. And recommend you consider them, if you are eligible, based on your existing health. Tis the season to be prick'ed. And spare the rest of us the inconveniences and risks of your contracting the flu.

Since we live in a fascist state, I am required to get one by my employer. Although I've gone many years without getting one. Nothing happened.

His RJ profile, unless it requires updating, clearly states he lives in Red Ohio. Your slam against Massachusetts falls flat. Now let's discuss the Fascist State of Ohio, that mandates vaccination you evidently oppose.

    That's nice aunty.
Never had one myself, and I've spent many years working in aged care, around sick people, and I've never needed a flu shot.
Got though this past winter, with out even a sniffle, as many past ones.

Good! And hopefully you won't feel any of the flu, either.

Not 100% protection against the flu, but your chances of avoiding it are greatly improved with the shot. Or you'll get a lesser version of the flu, like a cold. And you reduce the risk of contributing to an epidemic, and exposing the rest of us to the dangers.

And it is dangerous, because flu kills, especially higher-risk individuals. Like the very young, elderly, and those in already weakend health, especially the immune system. Like chemo patients and people with HIV/AIDS. Some of whom cannot take the vaccine.

There was a time, before modern medicines, when quarantining the sick was the only option to prevent the spread of communicable diseases. It's still done in the US for some cases today, like ebola. Violating your quarantine was a crime, may still be.

Do you no-vacciners believe you can't be quarantined, either, when you are highly infectious? Is that also government intrusion on your right of free choice?

When I was in the Army flu shots were mandatory. Yet some of my staff tried to skip them.

Well, I'm kinda liberal in much of my approach, even when I was in uniform. But when I received a clear & direct order there was no latitude.

So I ordered a 15-passenger van from the motor pool. My entire office got into it. My Operations Sergeant drove it. Straight to the military hospital. I watched as every one of them got their flu shot.

On the way back to our office I had the van drive an off--post detour, and stop at a very popular ice cream shop. Everyone had ice cream on me, out of my own pocket.

The message was clear: you gonna act like children, I'll treat you like children, not like soldiers. I think most of them understood the symbolism.

But next year a Sergeant actually asked me if there'd be ice cream again. Ah, no, this year you will be a soldier, and follow orders, and not be a shameful wimp. All of my soldiers got their shots, they couldn't defy my order. And got no ice cream reward for it.

And here it is 3 days later from his flu shot, and no side affects. No soreness of the arm, no cold symptoms, nothing. Nor did I have.

And keep in mind we got the senior dose (over 65), about double what others get. Because our immune systems are assumed to weaken with age, and require the stronger dose. And we still felt no negative effects.

So what are you waiting for? At your age are you gonna develop autism, and all these other loony things the Right Wing is trying to scare you with? Get your damn shot, and spare the rest of us from exposure to you when you contract the flu because you skipped the shot.

Many soldiers are stupid. I would never want to be a soldier. Unless I was in a gay military whose aim was to destroy Saudi Arabia, Iran, Uganda and other gay Holocaust countries. And I wouldn't get a flu shot.

If you were under my command you would get a flu shot. Or else I would have charges brought against you. You'd potentially lose your rank & pay, and possibly your freedom in a military confinement facility. And you'd still get your flu shot, even if they had to restrain you to do it.

And BTW, soldiers are not stupid, most quite smart, actually. I considered them all heroes, and respected them, of all ranks. Whether Army, Navy, Marines or Air Force. Somewhere on one of their uniforms it said "U.S", just like my own uniform did. That made them my brother or sister.

If you chose that hard life, that risk to life & limb to defend our country, you were already a hero to me. Whether you ever saw combat or not. And they are clever, resourceful, inventive, far from stupid.

You don't get to choose what enemies you will fight, and those you will not. That's not in your contract, not in your oath. That's why we trust that our leaders will make wise decisions.

And why the US military today fears Donald Trump more than it fears Putin or Kim, or other foreign threats. Having an unhinged psycho as Commander in Chief is a scenario no one ever thought we would ever face.

Yes I know you are a stupid Nazi. If you forced me to get that flu shot and restrained me I would come back and murder you. It's against my religion and I am already very bitter about it being required. All fascists deserve to die. Also there are many religions like the Amish who are against the flu shot. You need to stop being a xenophobic Nazi. Typical Democrat totalitarian.

Nice example at what a member of a Kremlin troll factory does. Sow dissent & discord. With outrageous, completely irrational claims.

But let's keep an eye on you now. You do realize you've completely invalidated yourself here, right? Anyone who repeatedly calls me a Nazi, with my long history here of Liberalism (long before you popped up a few months ago - let me guess - Saint Petersburg?), is clearly nothing more than a provocateur.

And easily dismissed. I don't think you earned your rubles today.

And now we've both gone a while since our shots. Me over a month, him a full week. Having gotten what amounts to a double dose of what most of you will get, due to our age.

Well, no arm soreness, no cold symptoms, no side effects at all. We didn't even feel the needle go in.

So what are you macho men waiting for? You wanna get the flu, and spread it to others? Too pussy to get your shot?

You are a psychopath. You think Russia, a poor homophobic third world country, pays me here to promote Trump, who they do not even like anymore, and lets me post pro gay comments too. It would be nice. I'd love to make money to promote Trump. I don't ever see a poor government paying me to do that. Only a crazy Democrat could think of fantasy like that. Thanks for saying it though..it makes me realize how dangerous you Democrats actually are and mentally unstable. And thanks for saying you think forcing people and holding them down to get a flu shot is acceptable. It just makes me realize how much I despise Democrats and how I should never vote for one.

Wow because it went good for you it must mean it will be just like that for millions of people. And FYI most people against it don't think it has a direct effect on them but that over vaccination slowly poisons your body over the years, and eventually helps damage you and you get sick. "Too pussy to get your shot"? Oh wow now I must get it because I will be masculine because a Democrat coward who caters to murderers and wants to take away people's freedom told me so.

The Flu Shot: The Myths, The Facts And Why Doctors Recommend It

Read the article. Warning for Eunuch: it contains lots of big adult words. You may need someone to translate it for you.

And as I already wrote, neither of us had any side effects. No arm soreness, no cold symptoms, nothing.

Despite getting a stronger "senior" dose, about double what anyone under 65 gets. That's because it's assumed our immune system is weakened with age, and requires the extra protection.

So what are you wimpy boys waiting for? Afraid of a little needle prick? You're cowardly pricks yourselves if you are! And in many cases shots are free. Hell, we each got $10 gift certificates, in addition to the free shots, used them to buy groceries.

Don't listen to this asshole people. I just got the flu shot and I've been so ill. My throat swelled up, I couldn't talk, fever, throwing up, constant coughing. It' been almost 20 days and I'm still coughing. I was never this ill before even when I had the flu as a child. While it is true none of my other co-workers got this ill(as far as I know), many of them also felt like crap for a long time.

I'm just wondering what's a troll's motivation in trying to persuade gay guys, predominantly American ones on this site, to avoid getting flu shots? A highly recommended heath practice that will lower the risk of a flu epidemic in the US, as well as in other countries.

This Eunuch character tells an anecdotal story that the flu shot made him extremely ill. An outcome that's extremely rare. And uses it as proof against anyone else getting a flu shot.

But my relating how over 30 years of flu shots has failed to result in such a reaction is dismissed by him. Nor have I known anyone to get more than a sore arm for a few days, and sometimes a mild sore throat. And that only in the early years of the vaccine. Today's dose doesn't affect me or anyone I know negatively.

So it's interesting how 1-sided his reasoning is. What he claims to have experienced is presented as a valid risk for all, but what others have benignly experienced, and health professionals widely report, are not valid reports. I suspect someone has an agenda, for reasons that can be speculated upon, given recent reports about organized trolling.

Because the "reports" are false. Me getting ill from it won't be reported even though I've told them and had to miss work. Also, don't you whine about how me and other Trump supporters are not tolerant of Islam? Yet you show no tolerance for my religious beliefs.. You've said people should be forced to get flu shots.
