New STD cases hit record high in US, CDC says

"In 2016, Americans were infected with more than 2 million new cases of gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia, the highest number of these sexually transmitted diseases ever reported, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday."

"Several factors are fueling the STD epidemic," Harvey said. "Funding cutbacks for prevention, education and healthcare programs, an on-going debate about sex education for young people, with cutbacks in that arena, particularly from this administration, and a rise in social media dating apps have all contributed to the rise."
Another reason is the lack of symptoms for these diseases and a failure of practitioners to educate their patients on what to look for."

Obamacare should have funded condoms instead or women's birth control. Maybe a liberal can explain why it's OK to discriminate against men.

In this case it's about left or right, because it 's about right or wrong.

    This is just the beginning.

As more and more gay people go on PREP, this will reduce their use of condoms that will leave them highly-vulnerable to other STD's. This is coupled with the massive increase in grimey apps/sites that make hooking up with complete strangers fast and easy.

I'm glad that I'm partnered up b/c its a cesspool out there now!

This is totally inexcusable, with all the information and statistics on the serious dangers of all sexually transmitted diseases, there is no legitimate reason for the careless risky behavior of both gays and straights. This could lead to another serious health crisis. Any unprotected flirtation with sex is basically a flirtation with both illness and death. Wake up people!

None of this is very surprising and many people wisely forseen this STI epidemic coming. Here my home state of New South Wales, a new law came in which dictates that if you have a sexually transmit able disease, (not HIV specific, all STI's), that you transmit to someone without taking precautions you can now expect an $11,000 fine and of 6 months jail. At the same time, laws which required persons carrying a sexually transmitable infection, where previously guilty of a criminal offence if they did not disclose their sexual health status, but now the requirement has been removed. There has been a huge spike in testing levels and frequency so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Prep and the online hook up culture are primarily responsible, however AIDS councils are also part of the problem as they have tended to promote sexual liberation and now are pushing a line about men who are Poz Undectectable being completely safe and I am concerned that even if not able to infect guys worth HIV, the health message encourages BB sex and many undectable guys refuse to have sex with condoms meaning the likelihood of other STI being passed on to Is quite high
