It's been closed for months, after the building was sold. The new owners did a renovation and felt a drag nightclub & bar didn't fit their plans. But now it's returning!

They've gotten a new place, for those of you visiting Miami Beach, on the same Ocean Drive alongside the Atlantic beach, just 2 blocks away from the old Palace. NOTE: South Beach is a part of the City of Miami Beach, on a barrier island with sandy ocean beaches. Not to be confused with Miami, on the mainland about 3 driving miles away via causeways across Biscayne Bay. The South Beach section is famous for its period art deco hotels.

Don't know what the new Palace Bar will be like, opens in a few weeks. Supposedly larger. The old one had a covered, slightly elevated outdoor terrace along the sidewalk, great for daytime drinks & light food while watching the scene. Towards evening the drag queens worked the sidewalk to bring people into the show inside.

It's the only genuinely gay club left along Ocean Drive. South Beach isn't the gay mecca portrayed in the movie "The Birdcage". But still, mostly gay friendly, with a few gay places on side streets. And so if you're planning to visit Miami Beach/South Beach, look for the reopened Palace Bar on Ocean Drive, near 10th Street.
