Ok, here is another beautiful place to visit in December or January, but it is not in Wisconsin. lol It is not even in America. It is Niagara Falls, Canada, that has a Festival of Lights that is going on right now until January 31 and many nights they also have fireworks that even add to the beautiful Christmas display and lights. The winter snow and frozen mists on trees from the falls adds a magical charm to the city. It's a very popular place to celebrate the new year. But you need a passport if traveling by air or passport card, if traveling by land into Canada.

Niagara Falls NY used to have the festival of lights but it declined in the 80s due to that town's rapidly worsening financial and crime problems. Nowadays any installment of these lights on the beleaguered American side would be vandalized and stolen after a few days. Niagara Falls NY is a clone of both Youngstown OH and Baltimore MD. The Canadian side of the falls is by far the best and most beautiful side. Most of the American side is urban decay and abandonment.

My ex-BF used to plan & oversee a festival of lights parade. Done by NPL (Northern Power and Light, HQ'ed in Minneapolis, I think later renamed Excel Energy), in which he was an executive.

I had VIP seating. But frankly I'd rather have been involved on the ground with the operations. I certainly was qualified.

But I appreciated that this was his "baby" and I was just to watch. A great show. I had to admire his organizational skllls.

How much I love this city. I remember the first ever winter sport I tried was ice skating with my then boyfriend. The rink is made right in front of the falls so one can skatecand enjoy the view of the falls at the same time.

And for anyone ever planning to visit NF, try to hop over to Canadian side, that's where the fun is and both the Horseshoe falls and The American falls are better viewed from the Canadian side.
