We had an unseasonably hot fall, but gee it sure nice now.
Naked hikes and walks all over the place. Sick of shoveling the snow yet?

Escape if you can and visit this Grand place.

I wish that I had both the money and paid vacation time because I would love to spend some of the winter in Arizona.

Chicago is in day 6 of an arctic cold snap. When you walk outside you have to have a scarf around your face because it is so bitter cold. I had the scarf, plus my fur lined hood covering my head when I came back from the grocery store a few minutes ago. I've lived here all my life but am sick of the winters here. As soon as I am able I am saying bye bye to the Midwest and hello to Palm Springs, California or possibly Phoenix, Arizona. I would rather deal with intense heat than extreme cold.

I feel for you man. I lived in Toronto!

It was really nice out today (12/30). The sun was warm and I did some hiking around-semi nude because a lot of people were around. I am not that crazy!

Stay warm and drop in some time. Phoenix is actually a pretty liberal city and very modern.

The hawaiian Islands are not that bad in reality....UNLESS you own multi-million dollar homes! That's when they get you. The property I am close to buying is near the beach and it's a small tropical home. This is how to save and live reasonably. Also, the sales tax is low only 4.3% on goods and some services.
The cost adds up on fuel and shipping! I am really basic and don't need much so it's not hard to actually do just fine. Then there's costco and the local farmers market!

    Pretty set!! Aloha

But Hawaii remains a stubbornly blue democratic state and given your fiercely independent, libertarian leaning streak, that could pose some problems for you.

It's currently a balmy -11 deg F outside. Later today, I'll be going to a going-away lunch for friends who are moving to Sun City, AZ.

That's great if you like heat and almost constant sunshine. I don't. I lived in a hot climate for 4 years and I've been deployed to various hot and sandy places over the years. No thanks.

It is currently 10°C (50°F) here in SW England, which is just fine.

People continually complain about the damp rainy climate in the British Isles, but on my single trip over there many years ago, I enjoyed it. I cannot understand why my grandparents ever left and immigrated to the desolate, subzero freezing hellhole where my family now lives. And a friend of mine moved last summer to Arizona to begin a new job, and posted back about the baking, over 100 degree heat which she has to endure. Fifty degrees in winter, even with a little rain or even snow, sounds ideal.

Now that is something that you and I can 100% agree on. I used to live in Austin Texas and the constant heat for roughly nine months a year got really monotonous and uncomfortable. I prefer a moderate four season climate.

Sounds like Seattle Wash? No sunshine seems depressing? I liked England, but I froze to death in July. lol
I stayed in Swindon, cool place and I love Bath England too.

It depends what suits you (clearly you like the heat). I think sunshine almost every day can become monotonous (it was 320 days a year in Cyprus, where I lived). And, of course, it affects the scenery, which tends to be brown and dusty in hot climates - although there is obviously some spectacular scenery in Arizona. I like the lush green scenery that comes with a temperate climate. Bath is beautiful. I know Swindon well too and lived near there for 4 years. Small world.

But RBR, after a week now of this arctic environment, I'm really over it. IMO, extreme heat is easier to deal with than extreme cold. You can at least wear t-shirts and shorts, or nothing!

We were 79º F today. A nice temperature, in that I don't even seem to feel the air. Neither warm nor cool.

    GET OUT!

An unusually powerful storm is threatening the East Coast of the U.S. this week with heavy snow, high winds, and record-shattering cold not seen in some places since the early 20th Century — if at all.

Frozen sharks have even been found.
But............mother earth has a very long history of heating and cooling.
    Forming and storming.

I dont know about the "cheaper" part because Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle are outrageously expensive cities.
